I'll explain the setup...

A PC, running Windows 7 32, Western Digital MyBook external, NAS drive.
A wireless laptop, running Vista 32, with small, internal hard-drive.

What I would "like" to do is...
Via the wireless laptop, access the PC / external drive from anywhere in the house. Sounds / must be simple. :(

When I have it all connected up, I can see the external drive no problem. I can access it and open any of the files on it. However, I can't see / access the PC.

Given the small internal hard-drive of the laptop, what I want to do is use the PC as a server, and run programs from it...Office, browser, Web design, photo design etc. The hard-drive in the laptop won't take all that. So am I able to do what I want--and I'm missing something in the setup--or am I wanting something that just can't be done?

Hi Duncs,

Do you have a mixed Operating Systems? If you'd like to access network resources such as printer and file sharing you will need to setup Workgroup for mixed O/Ses or Homegroup for Windows 7.

To access the NAS, make sure that you create the same User Name and Password on the NAS and computers that will access the NAS.
