Access denied message

I am trying to copy my Firefox profile folder from my older pc to my Win 7 net book. In the past i used the "run/%applicxxxxxx/profile" syntax to reach my profile. Now, when i do the same in Win 7, i had to create a new folder "profile' and then paste my older profile. In doing this I get the message that it is not accessible. Access Denied. Is there a different way to do this in Win 7?

I assume you are using the wrong path, The Firefox profile is kept in C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla

Also you might want to check the permissions on the files and folders you've created. Depending on how exactly do you transfer your files, they might turn out to be inaccessible just because you (and FF) do not have permissions to access them.

On the contrary, that is what I am using. Checking it out, not only do i see my older profile, but one that was created automatically when i installed FF again. I deleted that one, closed FF, restarted it, and now i get that proverbial 'pain' about FF is running in the background...it seems that there must be a bug in Win 7...the slightest checking of some files and closing FF, makes it difficult to restart it again.

Thank you, i will give it a try...still frustrated by the fact that each time i do something in my FF browser on the new net book, i get that confounded message where it prevents me from opening the browser. Never had that happen on my older desktop. Don't know if its a Win 7 or Mozilla bug...and how to get rid of it. Even reinstalling FF doesn't help.

Mozy backup,in the process has discovered a corrupt file..so now i am left in limbo.

If it will back up your bookmarks and history, uninstall firefox then reinstall it again and restore your bookmarks. See if that will work.

If you can find your profile, then you can find the backups of your bookmarks. They are located in C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\randomeprofilestring\bookmarksbackups. Move the latest one to a safe location, then simply uninstall Firefox, make sure you check the box that asks about removing the profiles, make sure all the profiles are removed - i.e. the Firefox folder is removed from the AppData\Roaming and so on, then finally install Firefox again and restore your bookmarks from the backup file.

I can assure you there is no specific Firefox-related bug in Windows 7. Most people here run Firefox and its various flavors without any problems. A corrupt profile is one of the common issues, but it's easily dealt with by simply reinstalling Firefox.

whoa...that last bit was new to me..."randomprofiles\bookmarksbackup"....i do see the profile folder and did add my profile info and still when i click on firefox's bookmarks tab, there is hardly anything shown. I moved my profile to win 7 desktop, and when i tried to add it to a new installation of FF, i have to click on the Browse button to show where i have the profile located....i cannot find a way to add that location of desktop where the profile is...this i found out the differences in win 7 and xp. In xp, there was no problem finding the location of the desktop. Would you know how i can add that location in the browse function? i guess i could move that profile to another folder..but now i am curious for the future, if i ever need to use desktop for a location.

Unless you have moved your user folders, it should be in C/users/your user name/desktop
