Hello all,

I've had this problem on and off for almost a year. My Acer 5750 laptop will randomly drop the connection to my router/modem.

Often I will be browsing on Firefox or another browser when suddenly the page requested will crawl along and a "page cannot be displayed" will occur. Often if I wait a few minutes, shut down the browser or laptop, reboot and it's good to go again.

The odd part is Windows will not always show a bad connection on the wireless icon on the toolbar. Sometimes there will be the yellow connection issue, but often the connection shows as working fine.

I have tried many times with a clean install of Windows Home 64bit, clean and up to date drivers from Acer. I updated the BIOS a few days ago but the problem remains.

It is not a major problem but it occurs at least a few times a day.

I also tried putting linux on the hard drive for a few days, no dropped connections but then again it was not tested very much.

The driver used is Broadcom 5.100.235.19

The actually modem/router setup seems to be fine as I never get dropped connections on my Android tablet and devices. The wife never complains of problems on her Samsung laptop which is running Windows 7 Stater, her Android tablets are good too!

I am not entirely convinced running Linux resolved the issue as I never fully tested it.

Possible network adapter dying?

Would love some suggestions, thank you.

This type of wireless disconnect problem can be caused by a million different things but the most likely problem is the power saving feature being turned on.

You can turn this off by going into Device Manger and opening up Network Adaptors, right click the wireless adaptor you are using then click on Properties, you will have the option to turn off power saving in the power management tab.
