Acer Aspire 5750G Shutdowns

I keep getting sudden shutdowns on my new Acer Aspire 5750G notebook.
I literally bought this model 1 month ago, although I was told it was a showroom model for some time.

Usually what happens is that I'm browsing internet/folders (not using any high-demanding programs) and after sometime the laptop just shuts off completely. Power seems to fail without any crash/shutdown whatsoever.
The odd thing is that I can play high-graphic games or other high cpu-demanding games/programs for hours and no crashes/shutdowns. These shutdowns happen AFTER playing these games or just randomly.

Also, yesterday I was playing music for and hour (just music, everything else on standby). But when I opened Firefox within 5 seconds I get a powerfail...

I've been looking around the internet for solutions but at this point I'm getting pretty hopeless.
- All my drivers are up to date
- Installed new Windows (Ultimate x64), no change
- No malware/virus
- Bios updated
- Not heat-related as I'm only getting 60/65 (70 max).

I'm relunctant to send it back to the shop as unsure whether I downloaded something wrong myself..

Only programs I got so far are games (Skyrim, Fallout 3 & New Vegas, Risen) Furthermore I'm using Gamebooster sometimes (Gives me more time before a powerfail).

  • To get this: Start Menu -> Type msinfo32 into the Search programs and files box -> When it opens, go to File, Save -> Save as msinfo32.nfo and save in a place you will remember -> Let it finish the process of gathering and saving the system info -> Right click the .nfo file, click send to compressed (zipped) folder -> Upload the .zip file here.

Problem devices can be found in your Device Manager. Search Device Manager in Start, and look for :warn:. Note that if the warning sign isn't there, select View on the top of the window, and end with Show hidden devices.

Not sure where these would come from. Are you able to see the warning sign?

I checked Device Manager before, but now it shows these two "Unknown device" under "Other devices". I only have the option of updating (which yields a "no driver software found" message) or uninstalling/disabling the device. All other info says unknown and details are unable to load.

Also install date seems to be today, the only clue I have is location information (PCI bus 2, device 0, function 3).

I'll try a couple of different driver updating software first, see what happens..

Strange. Also is Windows Update updated fully? Also check for hidden updates.

Okay, so I manually downloaded a driver for Broadcom Card reader, and a driver for a Broadcom USB stick. Not sure if this was the problem, I'll wait for a bit and see if the problem still occurs, if not thanks..

I'll post again tomorrow with results...

EDIT:
I just had two shutdowns one right after the other.. No errors showing in Device Manager anymore.
I'll upload a new NFO file..

According to the event viewer I'm having unexpected shutdowns, altough there are no reports giving a reason or different behaviour..

EDIT 2:
I've been experiencing more shutdowns ever since I installed the new drivers... I disabled them for now, although that doesn't really seem to help. Also installed all hidden updates I had left (a couple for new internet explorer etc.), but these don't make a difference either..

Really running out of options atm..

Have you tried the Memtest86+ yet?

Combining your crash dumps and the general view of BSODs culprits, I'd suggest you to have a look at your memory, the sticks. Through decades people have been using the bootable tool called Memtest86+ and it's basically very unique in these manners.
:info: Be sure to check your warranty rules and regulations before opening your case.

* Memtest86+ is USB-ready, and can be booted directly from it. Download the flashdrive wizard.
* To ensure that either your sticks OR your motherboard slots are broken, it's necessary to do the below procedure-
* Pull out all sticks except ONE, scan it.
* If no errors, pull the scanned stick into another slot.
* Proceed like this until you've scanned all sticks individually, and all the slots.​

Hi again,

I went back to the store where I got it from and they cleared the whole thing, installed new windows and reverted everything back to factory setting, but the problem is still happening...

Not sure if I should send it back to Acer now, but I'll try your method first. I installed the Memtest on a USB but how exactly am I supposed to start/boot it? And what do you mean with scanning (I assume not an antivirus scan..)

Alright great. Press F5 and choose the your USB on boot. I believe it's F5 otherwise try F2 or F8 or maybe even F12. You can also go to BIOS and choose your USB as the first priority on boot. The BIOS setup can be reached by Tab or Delete in most situations.

When you boot from it, it'll start scanning. Nothing more really. It's like running in DOS. Leave it for 7 passes and do the method as I talked about earlier.

Hi, back again, as the memtest came up with nothing.
At this point I have put a new Windows on (again), and I have the idea it might be the power supply.

All the shutdowns I had at this point happenend when I had my laptop plugged in. I haven't used it much on battery, but it haven't had a shutdown yet.
I have been getting less shutdowns to begin with since I uninstalled Daemon Tools (or any other mounting tool). These mounting software created a virtual drive which apparenlty caused more shutdowns (that's what I'm thinking anyway).

So I'll be testing on battery for a bit, if that doesn't work I'll send it back to Acer.

Hi again,

I figured out what the problem was, or at least how to stop the shutdowns. I searched a bit more on the internet and finally found a post which explained how to stop getting the event id 37 warnings(The speed of processor # in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for x seconds since the last report.)

To stop these errors someone recommended going in to the bios and disabling c-states. Ever since I haven't had any problems (apart from the laptop being slightly louder). I did have to unlock my bios, but seems worth it.

Anyway thanks for putting up with me, and hope this info will help others as well.
