Activation Bypass Legality

I dual-booted my current machine with Windows 7 and XP. (7 came on the upgrade option I got with my PC). Anyway, I know how to bypass the activation process on XP with editing the registry. My question is this: Is it legal? I have the XP disc from my old laptop which I don't use anymore (Pentium 4 1.8 GHz isn't near fast enough for me at this point). I installed XP on a second partition following the tutorial on this site.

I wouldn't if I were you. Why would you want to? The only real reasons for bypassing activation is saving a key for later use. At least that's what it looks like to others.

problem is, is that I need XP on my machine and activating it through MS isnt working for some reason. I do own licesnses for XP, but they aren't working.

Call MS. If you are legal, they will take care of it for you.

Are you sure the XP license you're using is for the same version installed, and the installer used is correctly OEM or Retail (which are separate in XP, unlike Vista/Win7).

When you attempt to activate, what is the result?

Have you tried calling MS to resolve the error.

If you have a legally obtained license, then MS will help you sort out the key to get it installed correctly.

They are not going to try to cheat you out of your rightfully owned property, only make sure it is activated correctly and legally, and not on more than one machine at a time.
