Solved Active Window Screenshot

First off, I apologize if this thread is in the incorrect forum.

Anyways, when I take a screenshot of an active window on Windows 7, it cuts off the shadow on the edges. Is it supposed to do this? (see attachment)

If not, how can I fix this?

If you're using the built in Snipping Tool this is how it is supposed to work.

You could try and cut round the window manually but that's just annoying.

Don't worry about it.

Yup, that's how its suposed to work. you can always try 3rd party apps like Snagit to have shadows and rounded corners in your screenshots.

Hello DutchCoffee,

Yep, that's the way it's suppose to work.

A workaround would be to use only FN key + Print Screen, then paste it (CTRL + V) into Paint to crop out the screenshot with the shadow included in it. It's a bit more work, but it should do the trick.

It's small, uses 480K of RAM when the little tool bar is on the screen; it minimizes to the System Tray.

Current Faststone version is not free. You did not mention that you meant an old version of Faststone.

If you go to their website and just download, you get this:



The ancient version you are using (according to the screenshot) is not available in their website. Check the facts, please.

I have been using this same version for years now and didn't know anything about the new versions.
I never had any reason to check it out before now.
Apparently, the last free version is 5.3
