Add items to a programs Start Menu / Jump List?

I'm in the process of decommissioning an old computer and moving all data from it. In this particular case the old computer had a number of Vnc shortcuts that I copied to the new computer, and into a folder that already had some VNC shortcuts.

The problem is that on the start menu there is a program shortcut for UltraVnc and a jump list of recently used Vnc shortcut files but if I double click in explorer one of the .vnc files copied from the old computer UltraVnc opens using the file but the jumplist is not updated to include that file.

I searched the forums here and found the location for recent items:
C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items

and I can see shortcuts for the Vnc files that are already on the jumplist but even if explorer is open as Administrator I can't create a shortcut in that folder for the Vnc files that I want to add to the jumplist.

How do I add shortcuts for the Vnc files to the jumplist for UltraVnc?

Thanks,

- Norm

Thanks, I took a look at the Jump List Launcher program that you suggested and if I understand it correctly from the video presentation you pin an icon for the Jump List Launcher to the taskbar and then you use the program to create custom lists that come from clicking the Jump List Launcher icon.

This will certainly work and I'll give it a try to see how well it works but rather than pinning another program to the taskbar I'd much rather figure out how to get the vnc shortcuts into the jump list that's already there for UltraVnc on my start menu.

When you say VNC shortcuts, are you talking about text files in the INI file format that has a ".VNC" file extension or are you talking about a target line shortcut or something else? What I do is save a ".VNC" file into a folder on the desktop, then I add the desktop toolbar to the task bar. This makes that (and other folders) menus.

Yes, they are .vnc files that contain the saved connection information. On my old XP machine that I'm trying to phase out I had exactly what you describe, a folder in "My Documents" with about 20 .vnc files and a toolbar on the taskbar.

I really don't understand why double clicking on a .vnc file doesn't add that file to the UltraVnc jumplist on the start menu and there doesn't appear to be a way to manually edit the recent files folder to add or delete items to the jumplists for programs that appear on the start menu. I was racking my brain trying to figure out how the items that are already on the UltraVnc jumplist got there and the only thing I could think of is that they are config files I'd saved from within UltraVnc. So I tried double clicking on one of the .vnc files I'd copied from my old computer and then from UltraVnc resaving the config information and overwriting the shortcut file. After doing that the file then shows up in the UltraVnc jump list, a bit of a nuisance but at least it solves the problem.
