Hi

I want to add another fan (possibly two) to finish off my cooling refurbishment but I have ran out of fan ports on the motherboard.

Is a fan controller my best bet?

Are they easy to install (inc. fans)?

Are there any particularly good ones out there?

Many thanks for any help.

Best

What kind of fan? Where is it going? You can buy fans that connect to a standard power supply molex connector.

Sky Crappy upto 20meg I get a whapping 5.8mbs.
I haven't brought the fan yet, so all suggestions are good.

Size 120mm to 140mm to go on the back panel to complete an air-in-front & air-out-back set up.

The molex suggestion is excellent.

Many thanks indeed.

Regards

The Molex is the simplest method if you want to run the fans at full speed as it just draws power from the PSU. My fans came with a small adapter cable to convert from 4-pin fan connector to Molex. Lots of places have these adapters.

Thanks all for the help.

I'll put one of my free Molex connectors to work asap.

The info is greatly appreciated.

And if you still want to control the fans speed connected via molex, there are plenty of fan controllers available. (which are connected via molex too)

I have a HTPC case that has two 120mm case fans that are powered by molex, and they each have a small fan speed controller - a tiny slider on a small cube, connected via a 6 inch cable. That's an option you could try.

I have a neat little thing, i forget what its called or who its made by but its sort of an oval shaped object that you plug a powered molex into the center of and it had 6 3pin fan ports, 3 on each side as well as it has led lights at each fan plug too,, i think i bought it at frys long ago for 5 bucks or so

If you purchase a quality fan like a Noctua then you can run them wide open via the molex which is included or off and fan header as well, they also include two speed resistors but why use them when at full tilt they are so quiet? Also they make a 140mm that uses mounts for a 120mm or 140mm.
