Hello,
Windows 7 Pro
I am the only user and thought I had full privileges. But I get messages that I don't have permission to do certain things, change system settings etc.
How to I get unrestricted privileges on my machine?

Many thanks.

Jack

Thank you very much for the advice, links. I have gone over them and think I understand. Since I'm the only user, I wasn't really concerned about security. I guess I'm still used to XP where I ran as administrator all the time. I'm having a hard time getting used to having Windows 7 keeping me from getting into trouble! Maybe, honestly, I feel a bit of resentment as well.

I'll be the first to admit that Windows 7 is vastly different to Windows XP, but the fact that anybody could use it (XP) as an administrator all the time left gaping holes in the operating system's defences against viruses.

Vista went way over the top with its intrusive UAC nagging, so I think you'll find Windows 7 will be far better in that respect.

Once superfetch (the way in which Windows 7 learns which programs you use most) is done and dusted, UAC prompts will be greatly reduced.

I hope you get to like Windows 7. Personally, I think it's Microsoft's best operating system yet.

SeaVixen,

Well, your comments on the increased security with Win7 makes me feel better about being protected. I bypassed Vista, so it was quite a leap to Win 7, and I'm still more comfortable with my WinXP box (Win 7 is on a new laptop). Eventually I'll go Win 7 completely, I'm sure.

Thanks again.

Jack

You're very welcome Jack. Just pleased to be of help.

You can always keep your XP box for your older programs should you want to.

While you're getting to grips with Windows Seven, don't hesitate to use the forum, we're here to help.

All I would ask is that you start a new thread for a new problem.
