aero preview...

I feel the same way about downloads!

But at least with downloads the IE icon has an increasing green tint over it. (i don't know about FF if you use it :p)

The sad thing is, i can't see Microsoft changing that any time soon. A 'thumbnail' is just a static image :p

Shame, it would be a nice feature if it was a 'Live' preview

Actually, it's is not static.

I've just checked with a Media Player and a DVD. In both normal and minimized states, I get a "live" video thumbnail of Media Player. I'm using Windows 7 x64 Build 7100

Pity I can capture that to show you...

It seems that only Video shows a live preview when WMP is minimised, Music just shows a static image (best tested at the end of a track). It must be programmed into Windows as the only 'real' need for a live preview is Video, i never sit watching Music or documents LOL

Installers can be a pain in the a$$ having to maximize all the time :p

It's looking like people haven't read this post, just the 1st one

   Note
Live preview work for WMC too :p

This is just me, but I don't really see the 'live preview' thing to be that big of a deal, definitely not a deal breaker(not implying it is to any of you). I think it would be a neat thing to have, but I don't find myself using the previews at all unless I have multiple windows explorer or firefox windows open at the same time.

Replied in another thread but for completeness...

It is up to the application to determine whether it updates itself when minimized. Most do not because there is no point in taking resources for something not being seen or used. For example Windows Media Player will not up date itself when playing a song and visualization, however, it will update when playing a video.

i guess this explains why my Windows Live Messenger sometimes seems to update itself, and sometimes doesn't, depends whether iv minimized the window, but you would think that with Instant Messengers they would, as you can see at a glance whether a message is worth replying to without having to restore it
