After updates run, PC Stops working until I restore to BackUp Image?
I have an older Laptop though it is still a very nice one that I think was ahead of its time.
HP Compaq nx9420. I recently bought and upgraded from Windows XP Professional to Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit Version. This new install is on a new HD. It took me about 4 times to get the install to take, but only because it would lock up after updating. I ended up installing the updates one at a time and backing up the system after each one that installed with out locking the system up. Since then I just have not ran any updates even though windows constantly reminds me that I have 15 important updates waiting to be installed.
There is one thing that happens after installing the updates that tells me right off the back if there is going to be a problem. During the windows load up screen when it says "Starting Windows", the Windows 7 icon where the windows merge together is gone and it reverts back to the XP progress bar. ( Hope this makes sense ).
I only have two things that have been effected as far as I know. My track pad has lost the ability to scroll up and down and, battery has to be unplugged and plugged back in if I want the PC to recognize that it is there and start to recharge.
Is there anyway way to know which updates are safe to install or why they are causing the system to crash. It goes to system recovery and after restarting god knows how many times, it tells me windows can not fix the problem?
