ALT, TAB window suddenly appears...

I am not sure what the window is called... it's the one that pops up when you hit alt tab and allows you to scroll between open top level programs.

The Alt Tab window suddenly appears and scrolls rapidly between all the open programs. I can access the task bar and open more pinned programs, I can launch the task manager but I am unable to close any programs nor do a graceful shutdown of the pc. I have scanned the event viewer and see the errors that resulted from a hard power down but nothing in the log that would point the problem.

There appears to be no particular sequence of open programs that cause the problems, it happens when I am typing in a document, editing an image or simply viewing a web page.

The problem existed before I upgraded to Win7 64 from WinVista 32. Frankly it was one of the major reasons I did the upgrade.

Given the subject of this posting... I don't even know the correct nomenclature of the problem.... subsequently my online searches have been futile.

Any info i.e. what do I call the problem... would be greatly appreciated.

Since this is a long term problem, I would tend to suspect the keyboard. Check for stuck keys, and if that doesn't cure the problem, try a different keyboard.

Now that would just make too much sense wouldn't it?... it's always winds up being the simplest of solutions...
I'll give that a shot next time it happens.
