AMD FX 9590 review

This release must only be so AMD are the 1st to release a 5Ghz chip as the price is rediculous and the performance is no better than an Fx 8350.
The Cinebench result Kit guru posted is less than my 8350 score's @4.8ghz and the screnshot posted shows the 9590 @4.02Ghz. So i don't know whats going on there.

As far as i can see the only differnce between this and an Fx8350 is the TDP and price.

AMD is asking too much $$$ although it's a limited edition CPU so maybe it's worth the money for CPU collectors.

Still, this makes the 3930K look so great for its price.

I agree with theveterans, its way too much money its just not worth it maybe for a collector yes but now someone who wants it for gaming, AMD are kinda like that i have an AMD CPU so i can see from both sides my next build will be intel as AMD think by ramming more cores into a CPU is better but only 4 of them are full hyper cores the other 4 are multi-threading cores meaning that there is not much difference from a more powerful CPU with 4 cores... Intel just pack more power and punch.t there is not much difference from a more powerful CPU with 4 cores... Intel packs more power and punch.

Yeah it will take some cooling enit. I've seen it said that there is plenty of headroom for overclocking it too but i don't know how.

Advise for FX-9590/9370 (Centurian) users on C5F-Z/Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
AMD has validated the Crosshair V and Sabertooth 990FX as for use with its new FX 9590 and 9370 CPUs, however there is some advise we'd like to add for users upgrading (or even users running their FX-8350s at ~5GHz frequencies).

1) You MUST plug in the 8pin and 4pin CPU 12V power plugs: they are there for this kind of usage! A 5GHz FX CPU will certainly draw over the 300W limit on the 8pin cable. If your PSU has good OCT it will simply cut out and your system will suffer hard-reboots. If not, it will likely melt poorly constructed PSUs with cheap wiring under extensive stress, unless your PSU is specifically fitted with heavy-gauge (lower AUG rating) wiring.

2) Do not disable OCP if you're running 24/7, it will protect your CPU. If you're trying to run extreme voltage for benchmarking you will have to turn it off, but in that case we strongly recommend watercooling (or at least chilling) the VRMs.

3) As you'd expect, when pulling close to 400W the VRMs run hot. At a minimum active cooling from direct case airflow is therefore a must (and watch those temps). Still, we strongly recommend watercooling the VRMs (EK does a good block) and do NOT loop CPU into VRMs: create two loops. When you consider your loops take into account the heat you're trying to shift: we advise looking at >1 large radiators and/or even a chiller system is maybe worth considering if you're running several high-power items together.

Given the price of CPU and expected total system cost anyway, we don't feel it's unreasonable to match such a premium setup with the right hardware. After all, this is what extreme PCs are all about

Recent FX8350 upgrader here, I see no compelling reason to bother with that, pretty amusingly poor excuse for next CPUs just to bring something new out.

No complaints though, I am happy with upgrade now that I moved to dual SSD's for OS, VM, and all utilities, system is very fast.

The typical user doesn't even have an upper class CPU to begin with, to know the difference, if Intel had their 6-core's down under $300 they would be dominating *hint hint*. [over $550 still....]

Makes it awfully tough to build an Intel 6-core for under a grand.

Yup i think even those with more money than sense would also avoid it lol. I don't know what AMD were thinking so came to the conclusion that they priced it like that so nobody buys it.

I thought maybe it would be good at Video encoding, but it turns out even if I downclock my 3770k to 4.5ghz it still beats it :huh:

Just upgrade to a FX-8350 if looking to upgrade from a lower AM3/AM3+ slot CPU at this point, of course check for support at motherboard manufacturer's website and BIOS update beforehand, that was the situation with mine, I had to get the latest BIOS on mine, fortunately MSI made the effort to support it.

I am roughly 4 months into my FX-8350 upgrade now and still no issues at all.
