Solved An extra USB icon on taskbar

Hi all,

I have an extra USB icon on my system tray in Win 7. I have the vmware installed on this machine. The USB icon shows my HDD drives!
I think it appeared when I uninstalled Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) app. I uninstalled it because I wouldn't think that IRST does anything useful on my desktop PC.
Now for getting rid of that extra icon do I need to reinstall that IRST!? What does it do actually in my PC please?

Try going to the search by the start button.
Type notification
When it pops up click on notification area icons
Then you should see several icons for that particular function
Set them to what you would like to happen

Thanks for the answer but it's just of hiding or unhiding that icon!

Your drives are being seen by the system as removable devices, therefore the "Safely Remove" icon is present.

IRST adds a AHCI driver that allows the system to correctly identify fixed hard drives as non-removable in a modern system that has the capability of hot swapping drives (AHCI mode).

Sometimes you can find a stand alone AHCI driver on your motherboard manufacturer's website, but most manufacturers are just offering IRST nowadays.
