Researchers are reporting the discovery of malware targeting Android devices, specifically a new variant of the DroidDream Trojan found in apps that Google removed from the Android Market, as well as malware on alternative app markets in China designed to run up premium SMS bills, and a data-stealing Trojan that targets one-time bank SMS pass codes.

HTC released Gingerbread officially for the HTC Desire, but only aimed it at developers for now. They released the RUU, but removed a lot of apps, and haven't upgraded Sense afaik. There's a rooted ROM of it available already that I'll have a play with.

It's a nice effort they tried to release it, but the current release has a lot stripped out and apparently doesn't even have support for SMS and MMS in it. It should go on for some nicer Sense ROMs, but not really fair for just the general user.

I guess that there are good custom roms for Desire. Use some of them...

I do use custom ROMs. I'm still on Oxygen at the moment, but I have a soft spot for Sense ROMs still

I'm using Infus3Th3ory as my ROM. It's pretty nice, I was using Das BAMF for a while. I'm also using some HTC Sense 3.0 stuff available even though it's not Full 3.0, and Android 2.3.4 on my Thunderbolt even though they're not out yet for it.
Much faster than my DSL.

I tried a Desire HD ported ROM for my Desire which included some Sense 3.0 stuff. Looked great, but was a bit sluggish on my Desire at times. I found a full Sense 3.0 theme for it though, and it did look great with the transparent navbar etc.

Here I'm runnning already 5 days with custom 2.3.5 rom. Fast and great rom !

I've not had my phone long enough to know what you're all talking about really, I do know it's an Android phone and I have quite a few apps installed that it came with and I can get lots more from the Android market if I want them, but there are some I can't have because of the version of my phone not being high enough.

I know my phone can be upgraded it's at 1.6 at present and could go to 2 something or other but I'm too nervous to do it and turn the phone into a brick

It's not the latest and greatest but I love it and I'm hoping my son gets a good deal when he renews early next year so I can have his iPhone.

If it's an official update then the chances of something going wrong are pretty low, so you should be safe enough to upgrade, Joan.

The upgrade would be through LG which the phone is, they did say I could upgrade my version and the instructions for doing the upgrade are on their website. I even did an online chat with one of the techs, and was told it should be straight forward as long as I follow the directions. I think the worst would be if the connection was lost during it or I didn't follow the direction.

To be honest though I don't really see there's any need for me to upgrade it, it's not as if I'm out and about with it and need some of the apps for helping me while I'm out. I just like playing with the technology and seeing just what I can do, but it's not worth bricking the phone for that.

Have you had a look at the new one, UberMusic? Using it myself and I love it it. Very smooth, great UI, and I love the WP7 Metro skin for it.

It's missing a few little things, but it's early days for it still.

Yeah I been beta testing that for a while but didn't purchase the v1 yet. It's good but lack few feature. Once it's up to speed I'm sure it will be there in my list
