I don't know now. Speedfan, coretemp64 and cupid HW monitor all have a reading of tempin1 and core temp. I am assuming that coretemp is CPU. During the CPU test, core temp was running 63-65°. Tempin1 was running 76-78°. All 3 programs had the same readings for both temps. Coretemp64 says that core is the CPU. I don't know what tempin1 is. However, earlier BIOS was reporting the CPU temp as the same as tempin1 is now. I hope I explained that correctly. As far as I know, coretemp64 only reports CPU temp, and it was showing 65°.

I am running MEMtest right now.I will have to explain exactly what I have done in another post when the test is finished. But I am reasonably sure that I have two good sticks of Ram and two bad sticks. I know I didn't do the test properly before - strictly out of ignorance. But right now I am running one of the good sticks in the slot where one of the bad sticks was located. 3 passes in it shows no errors. The two good sticks have been tested 4 different times although they were tested together. I will explain more in another post.

I don't suspect you are overclocking anything, but just to make sure, are you or have you in the past?

Try testing the hard drive with SeaTools: | Seagate

Also, could you run Memtest86 again, on the remaining sticks of RAM? Be sure to run it with all sticks in.

Hi Jonathan, I do not nor have never overclocked. I have already tested my Seagate HD with Seatools with no problems found. I ran Prime and Furmark yesterday with no problems. I am running memtest right now. (I am on another computer). I understood your memtest tutorial to say to run it one stick at a time. That is what I am doing right now.

I have a MSI 890GXM MB. it has 4 Dimm slots. I had 4GB DDR3 1333 in each slot. Two weeks ago I ran memtest and found errors on two sticks(slot 3 & 4) I removed them. I ran memtest 4 more times on the other two sticks with no errors. Today I took out all of the ram. I installed the stick from slot 1 (which had never failed) into slot 3 which failed twice. I ran memtest for 7 passes with no errors. I am now running the stick from slot 3 (which failed twice) into slot 1 (which never failed) I am currently through pass 5 with no errors. However, when I first started up (stich from 3 in slot 1 ) I got 4 beeps and would not boot. It shutdown and rebooted and posted then booted without any problem. It is currently running now with no errors.

Quite rankly, I am tired and frustrated. This the second thread on this. I am tired and my computer is tired of a week or so of stress testing. I don't know who is most stressed, me or the computer. If you read my specs, I have a SSD. I hope none of this testing has damaged it. I am completely at a loss. I have run scannow almost daily and it finds no problems. I have run Sea Tools and checkdisk at least twice with no problems. I have updated drivers and tested hardware. I am beginning to think about software (that is about all that's left). You be the judge, I will try whatever you think But, please, no more stress tests. I forgot to mention that I was running Norton360. I uninstalled that from my SSD. I then did a secure erase of the SSD and a clean install of windows. I installed MSE to replace norton and also downloaded malware. I scan every day and find nothing. I'm not sure what to do now. If this stick of ram makes it through 7 passes I am going to leave it in slot 1 and put the other stick I tested alone today in slot 2 and try that I guess. I really don't need 16GB, I am perfectly happy with 8. I don't know what else to do. This computer is only 3 months old and everything in it is new. If you have any ideas I would love to hear them. Thanks for everyone's help. You and everyone have been very kind to help me.

Jonathan, I hope you took no offense from my post because I meant None. Sorry I took my frustrations out on you. I have just tried everything I know and nothing has worked. I don't know if it has anr bearing, but I have windows explorer crash 3-4 times a day. Also, ie explorer keeps freezing up the computer so bad that task manager can't close and occasionally I get a BSOD when that happens but not always. I have quit using it and am using Firefox now. It seems that those are MSFt programs and scannow would find something wrong.

Also, I have been told by several on rhis board that AMD sometimes does not handle large amounts of ram well. Perhaps that is why I got errors with memtest when I had 16GB and am not getting errors now. Just trying to figure out what the cause is. Thanks for putting up with a grouchy old man.

The kinds of problems your are having are very frustrating because there is no straight forward cause. RAM problems are difficult because there can be so many causes other than simply a bad RAM stick.

Thanks Carl. Sorry about the frustrated posts yesterday. But, so far I have:
1. Updated 2 drivers - the network driver from the manuf. website and the USB 3.0 (NEC) from MSI.

2. I have run prime95 and Furmark - Both passed.
3. I have run memtest 86 probably 7 times now. I have run it with 16GB installed which showed two bad sticks. I located and removed those sticks. I have run it both hot and cold with the remaining two sticks - 4 times all passed.
I have run one of the good sticks from a slot where a stick failed 7 passes - it passed.
I ran one stick that failed alone in one of the slots that passed and it passed. Those tests I ran yesterday. I am currently running just those two sticks.
3 I have seatools from seagate and my Seagate HD passed both the SMART test and the short drive self test.

I have WinDig from Western Digital- I ran tests with it on my WD drive and it passed.

I have OCZ's toolbox and it reports no problems with my SSD. I also have crysralDiskmart disk info test. It reports the SSD as 100% healthy.

Those tests should cover most of the hardware problems except the PSU. My PSU is an 'el-Cheepo' but it seems to work. It is 600W which is probably much more than I need.

At this point I don't know ahat else to do. I have probably done a few things I haven't mentioned. I am beginning to think maybe software. But I have very little on this SSD-about 20GB including windows.

I have had problems with both windows explorer and ie explorer. Both crash several times daily. I am using Firefox at this point.
I have the free version of Macrium installed and it does not work correctly. I may uninstall that to see if it helps.

I have run scannow and checkdisk on every HD I have several times withoun any errors.

I have deleated every BSOD report I have. I had so many on my desktop I didn't know which was which. Most of them have been uploaded to these 2 threads.

So, I guess I am in the wait and see mode unless you have any suggestions. All of you guys have been great, and I appreciate what you have done for me and what you do for this web site. People like you guys is what makes this the best windows sight on the net.

BTW, I forgot to mention that on 12/9 I did a secure erase of my ssd and then a clean install of windows. I transferred
nothing except my Documents folder from the other installation. My Seagate is the Data drive. Most of my libraries are there.

I have just finished running Memtest on the 2 4GB sticks I have in my computer. From a cold boot I ran it 7 passes with no errors. I have run prime and furmark, scannow and checkdisk. I have tested all HDs with Sea Tools and Windig as well as OCZ toolbox. I have updated drivers, done a secure erase on my SSd and a clean install of windows.(for more details see post #26 above). Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do next?

Do you have a different PSU you can try?

It seems that this is almost certainly a hardware problem; we just need to find out what.

I wish I did but no. And I hate to go through the process of elimination. I'm no expert, but with all the tests I have run, in my mind if it's a hardware problem it is the PSU or MB. Does that sound right?

That's what I'd suspect too.

Looking back, your CPU does seem a bit hot. Granted, that was while Prime95 ran, but it might not hurt to bring those down a little. Try opening up the case, and cleaning out all the dust with a can of compressed air.

The CPU temps- Could that be because of the stress test and only having the stock CPU cooler?
