Hello everyone.

I know there's a few people who have said before that Windows 7/Vista wakes itself and have asked for help on how to fix it. I've searched Google myself for answers. Alot of the time it's something simple such as making sure that the PC is allowed to sleep while sharing media.

In my case my PC keeps getting woken by my network adapter (found using powercfg -lastwake). I do want the ability to WOL so the network adapter is set to wake the PC, I've even checked the box to only allow it to wake with a magic packet. I've allowed it to sleep while sharing media also, but as soon as it goes to sleep it wakes back up.

I had exactly the same setup with Vista x64 and it always stayed sleeping, but Windows 7 continually wakes, I've even updated the network adapter driver.

Sorry if that's a bit too much to read. I hope someone can help me out.

Thanks

Thank you for the help Brink, however, I've looked through the link you posted and I think I may have a special case on my hands. I tried send my pc to sleep without me being logged in (i put it to sleep from the select user screen), and the PC went to sleep and stayed asleep. Whenever I'm logged in and put the computer to sleep it wakes straight away. Very strange.

I'll continue to work through the info you gave me, but I thought i'd keep you updated, in case you had any more ideas.

Thanks.

EDIT 1: I decided to try turning off all non Microsoft services and all startup programs in msconfig. After rebooting i logged in and the PC was able to sleep. Makes me think that something there is causing it to wake.

EDIT 2: I decided to turn on all startup programs and all services. After rebooting and logging in i tried to put the PC to sleep, within seconds it woke back up. I then decided to log off and then put the PC to sleep, this time the PC went to sleep and stays sleeping. Any ideas on what I can do to find out the cause?
