So it started with me trying to access my Network sharing properties and it said an unexpected error occurred.
I did an SFC Scan and it says windows have found corrupted files but cant repair them.
i did a virus check but no virus.
When i try to change UAC settings it has this error - Bad Image
C:\windows\system32\comsvcs.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.
So basically if it has the blue and yellow shield i can't access it such as: Network properties, Add or Change user account, Change UAC, Parental controls and whatever else.
All im trying to do is access the Network Sharing properties so i can hook up my Xbox 360 directly to my laptop and use it as a router.
I'm trying to avoid reformatting my computer because i have too much stuff and no where to put it.
Help please, ive been at it now for 2 days.
if any other information is needed just ask.

::I just tried using the other administrator account that i already had but that doesnt work either. Same things go on in that one. Also, if it doesn't give me an error message when i try to click on something with the shield, it just wont do anything, nothing happens.::

::Just checked to see if it really was ALL the items with a blue and yellow shield. It's not. There are a few that work like device manager. But the ones i need still dont work.::

It already told you that the file has gone bad. Since it said that it couldn't auto repair them, try to manually replace the bad file with a good copy.

How do i do that? can i just download the dll file somewhere or is it in the os cd because i i dont have one and my laptop doesnt have a cd drive.

Sorry i found it and i downloaded it now it says i need permission to do the following task (Replacing the old comsvc.dll with the new)
I cant change the settings for the folder to give me the permission because it has that blue shield thing again. This time when i click on it it says invalid syntax.

::The only owner or person that has full control of it is "TrustedInstaller"

Windows File protection might interfere with the process. What I do when manually replacing files is either use the repair console method, OR:
Disable file protection, re-boot and go into safe mode as the admin, replace the bad file, re-enable file protection, reboot.

Can you tell me how to do do either of the two please?

I suppose I should have asked this first. You have completely disabled the UAC, yes? Or is it still enabled?

Since you don't have an OS disc or disc drive for that matter, I'm not sure how you would go about accessing the repair console under Windows 7. Anyway, make sure that the UAC is disabled, because option 2 won't work otherwise.

Well in my first post it says i tried to disable it but that has the administrator shield thing. so when i click on that it says bad image and gives me a msg.
C:\windows\system32\comsvcs.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error.

I tried to disable the file protection. when i went to safe mode it still told me that i need permission.

It's quite the loop it seems :/

Yeah, I figured it would say that~

Short of having access to an external disc drive and Windows 7 disc, I don't know what you could do to get around that sorry.

From your expert expertise(no sarcasm intended) do you think that if i reformat my computer it'll work right?

A clean start would definitely get your back up and working normally (your computer has some sort of OS recovery partition I assume.)

Your problem just made me realize that while I do love protection offered by UAC , if it gets damaged, you can get locked into it like a prisoner with no keys :o

This most likely won't work, but you could try deleting the problem file and hope that the Windows Resource/File Protection restores a good copy, then reboot. But I think that will give a UAC block too, worth a try though right?

Well, whatever you choose to do, that's your choice :)

Future considerations of running the UAC at low settings or just disabling it are there, or you could run as a limited user with UAC enabled-- that would stop most potential harm to the UAC.

one last question. If i restore to the last restore point (which is the beginning since i never back my stuff up) will my pictures and videos still be on the computer?
the reason i ask this is because on my desktop (Windows XP) I had a really bad virus so i restored to last backup point which was pretty much factory settings and i still had the programs that i had. i forgot if i had the small files like pictures still. but the main stuff was there.

I was doing more browsing, when you press F8 at the startup of your computer, is there a computer repair option listed there?

Get the Recovery Console back in Windows 7

I'm not sure about what files would stay or go under a system restore, as I last done that in XP, system restore may work differently in 7.
