I have an app that runs perfectly in WinXP x86 SP3. But when I try to run it in Win7 X64 it says it cannot start the app. There is no install software to this app, never was. Yes, it is pretty old. And so is the HP laptop, I simply want to move on to W7 not to jeopardize the app, which is accounting. It says the app is not compatibel with W7. but does of course not tell me why. The MicroBrain is as always doing a sloppy job.
Any suggestion how to circumvent this?
Thanks for all and any support!

Right click on the .exe file. Select Properties, Compatibility. Set it to run in XP Sp2 compability mode (I'm not on my Win 7 system right now so I don't know if Sp3 is an option).

there should be an XP SP3 compatibility mode option available for any app in Win7 as I have confirmed this myself on a Win7 OS (both x86 & x64 Win7 versions have the xp sp3 compatibility mode)

I have an app that runs perfectly in WinXP x86 SP3. But when I try to run it in Win7 X64 it says it cannot start the app....
An x86 system can run 16-bit and 32 bit apps. An x64 can run 32-bit and 64-bit apps. Looks like you have a 16-bit app there......
you could try an W7 X86 architecture just like your XP system, my microbrain is thinking how do you install it.....

You need an x86 Windows machine to run this app. That could either be a physical machine with an x86 install of W7/8/10, or a virtual machine with an x86 Windows running on it.

Windows XP Mode is 32-bit XP Pro SP3 virtual machine.

Windows XP Mode for Windows 7 makes it easy to install and run your applications for 32-bit Windows XP directly from your Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit based PC. It utilizes virtualization technology such as Windows Virtual PC to provide a Virtual Windows XP environment for Windows 7. Windows XP Mode provides only Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise users the flexibility to run many older productivity applications in a virtual Windows XP environment on a Windows 7-based PC.

I also have W7 Pro on my System Two, and several W7 Hyper-V VMs. My other machines run Windows 10/11. Their specs are in my Ten Forums & Eleven Forum profiles.

Bree is correct and I suspect your issue is the age of the program. Very old 16-bit programs won't run directly on 7 64-bit. The clue is it working on xp 32-bit. However without any additional information on the program all we can do is speculate.
