Application crash on Window 7

Hi,
We have a window application (using MFC in a shared DLL and build in Visual Studio 6) which run fine on Window XP but it crashs on Window 7 OP with following exception "unhandled exception in *.exe(user32.dll): 0xC0000005: Access Violation.". The Exception happens on release build and debug build. Could anyone help us how to find the problem.

Does the program work OK if you run it in a Windows XP compatibility mode? If you haven't tried that, give that a try. Most programs that run in XP will run in Native Win 7, but there are some exceptions and for those you need to run in a Compatibility mode.

Some also require running as Administrator (even though your log on has Adminstrator rights). To do this RIGHT click on the icon for the program and then LEFT click Run as Administrator.

We did try to run the application as Windows XP compatibility mode or as an Administrator right. But it crash also on both cases.

Probably the best way to find this is to instal VS 6 on a W7 machine and run it in the debugger and watch where it halts...

Often times changes in running environments, even subtle ones can expose a bug that was there in the code all along but never got tripped before...
