For me the only thing that bothers me about this feture is WMP and VLC all have a Recent tab easy accessible with a single click and you can see what someone has watched.

Can I turn this future off?

I am not sure about VLC, but for WMP the procedure is as follows:

1. Open WMP.
2. Click Organize and then Options...
3. Select the Privacy tab.
4. The options you require are listed under History.

Thanks for your reply, but I found another way which did what I wanted


Start Menu>Properties

In the Privacy box uncheck "Store and display recently used items....."
