Assassin's Creed specs?

I'm thinking about getting Assassin's Creed (The first one, not AC2). I had conflicting sources telling me what should and shouldn't work.

My specs work out fine except for two things:
1. I have a Pentium 4 processor. The specs say I need a dual core processor. I've looked at what other people have said and they say it should work without one. I just wanted to verify that before I put my money into the game.

2. I am running Windows 7 (32-bit). The specs say Windows XP/Vista (only). Does that mean Windows 7 won't work?

Thanks a lot, guys.

Try this website Can You Run It. Just choose the game you want and it will scan your system's hardware and tell you if you're able to run the chosen game.

I LOVE assassins creed! (got number 2 pre-purchased :D)
I have assassins creed currently installed on my Win7 machine at the moment and it runs fine.
your hardware should also be ok to 'run' the game.

I will say though with your hardware, you wont be able to run it at top notch or even high end graphics (shame too cos the game looks awesome maxed out) so you will have to settle for medium to lowish graphics if you dont want to have to your fps below 30.

the game is quite cpu and graphic intensive, which is why they want you to run it with a dual core.

Everlong18, I tried the website before and it never finished installing the Java thing or whatever. I'll try it again.

Thanks sleek. Just wondering, you're saying because of the CPU it won't work as well? Or because of my graphics card?

Frostmourne, I have no idea what you're saying. :p What does "bottleneck" mean? [/noob]

Thanks for the responses, guys.

If you were to get a the best CPU in your system right now, you still wouldnt be able to run it maxed because your vid card just isnt capable.
That said, if you left your CPU and really beefed up your vid card, you still wouldnt be able to run it maxed because the CPU is not powerful enough.

So in short, its not just one holding you back, but both. However, itl be more the CPU than the video card.

Ok, that's what I thought. Now, another question: How hard would it be to buy a new CPU and put it into my computer? Apparently it's pretty tough, but still wasn't sure.

not on maxed settings
dunno bout medium settings
should work on lowest settings..

you should just try something between lowest and medium..

I'm not really comfortable with getting a new computer yet. It's really expensive, and I've moved to Windows 7 two times in the past month (long story).

Replacing a CPU with one of the same socket type (has to be the same) is fairly straight forward. Take out the old one, put in the new one and lock the heatsink onto it. This is assuming ofcourse that there is thermal paste on the new CPU already (last cpu i bought already had thermal paste on it).

As your using a P4, your mobo can only support single core processors so you wont be able to really upgrade.... You would need to buy a new mobo, by doing that you need a new CPU (as the socket type on the new mobo will be different to the P4 socket type) and while your at it may aswell chuck in some new ram. In the end you pretty much have a new computer.

And for a new system you can't beat a quad-core i5 750 if you don't want to spend $$$ too much.

Hi!
I have Windows 7 too, and I've installed Assassin's Creed on my computer. And it lags! Once at start-up, when the Ubisoft logo appears, then at playing every time I kill someone(not assassinate). I tried to bring all the graphic settings to minimum, but it does the same. Only when i kill someone. Last year on the same computer, but with windows vista, it was installed and ran fine. The same game, on the same computer, only other os. I have tried also to set the compatibility to vista or xp, and it does the same. Please help.
My specs :
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4600, 2.40GHz
RAM: 2GB
System type: 32-bit
Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT, 512 MB
