This tells you how to do it. You should probably update your other drivers before flashing the BIOS though. Again, how stable are you now?

Establish a Clean Boot and use the System Resources to find problems and solutions as given in Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7. Google repeat errors especially in Performance log at time of hang.

Is this a factory preinstall of Win7? If so I would Clean Up Factory Bloatware although most tech enthusiasts prefer to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 - everything you need is in the link.

What is your Display device and current installed driver? Have you tried other drivers or recently updated it? You can see all previously installed drivers at Device Manager>Display>Driver tab>Update Driver>Browse>Let me Pick. Did Sleep work correctly with a prior driver?

as far as i remember this laptop has always had the occasional freeze after sleep/hibernate even when i first unpackaged it i think that night it froze so im not sure if rebooting back to my back up disk will really do any thing as this was always there, after using the driver detector program all my drivers are upto date and iv downloaded the updates from the asus website for the bios latest update

yulaw,
Use this procedure-use speccy-and fluff out those system specs. I'm looking for some missing info.

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec
(left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

Add the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
“system manufacturer” block, for example,
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

Do not worry. You're computer will not crash and burn, but here's the first set of actions:

WIN | type MSCONFIG | ENTER | STARTUP tab |

uncheck ALL except for:
Code:
Sidebar C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe /autoRun
ETDCtrl %ProgramFiles%\Elantech\ETDCtrl.exe
MSC "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\msseces.exe" -hide -runkey

REBOOT!

WIN=key with microsoft flag on top.

REMOVAL OF P2P PROGRAMS

There are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

As long as you are using any form of P2P networking to download files, you can anticipate malware infestations.

it makesno difrence if i remove everything in msconfig will still freeze/crash from a return from sleep and only a slight increase in speed on start up, am seriously considering handing this laptop back in on my warrenty, it still throwing up admin error events most of which happen in the time it has recoverd from a sleep till it freezes, an seems to not issue a error event if it has been restarted

Have you contacted Asus support to get help under warranty? I would get it replaced or sorted during warranty period so that you have a proven working machine before it expires.

Most tech enthusiasts will not run the factory bloatware preinstall but Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Be sure to make your Recovery disks and save a Win7 backup image first as Asus may not support a clean reinstall so you'd need to recover or reimage with factory image before shipping it back.
