ASUS K61IC high temps under idle and load

Hello guys, i swear its been more than a year since i last visited xP

Anyway straight to the point, I have my friends old laptop an ASUS K61IC

-intel core 2 duo t6600 2.1Ghz 4gb ddr2 ram and a gt220m

Notebooks & Ultrabooks - K61IC

and basically the laptop has a dedicated cpu and a dedicated gpu fan. so they have separate cooling out two ports of the back of the laptop which is pretty swell

Now the problem is, the cpu can hit 60c when idle and the GPU 54 which i guess is fine for that., nothing is active in the taskbar except temperature monitoring. nothing running in the background.

under load (gaming) the cpu hits up to 80c and the gpu a bit less . to me i think that is a bit high, even for a nvidia gpu. I have a laptop with a faster amd athlon x2 and a 6470m but they remain cooler BUT share a heatsink and fan

i have cleaned out dust and re applied TIM but nothing has changed also both fans spin up, except the gpu fan doesnt spin fast.

your thoughts?

Those fans may not be spinning up to full rpm, they are how old? You can buy cheap lap top stands that have small usb powered fans, they do a good job of dropping temps. I use one for me old Dell Inspirion, makes a nice difference. I finally replaced the fan in the Dell and temps improved.

The fans as far as i know are fine, the nvidia fan i can feel push air out but not at high rpm, each fan has 4 wires on the connector so must be controllable? the cpu fan adjusts speed and can get quite high, but not enough to cool the cpu obviously. I dont have a desk so a cooling stand would be a pain to move around the house
