Ok so this is the problem,

I had a win7 compurer next to my tv to serve as a media center, worked fine but pc was very old so I went out and got a faster new one, so I could also watch bluray movies and other large files.

the new pc works fine also but I'm having a lot of troube with the screen resolution I've got a fullHD 42" Philips lcd tv, and im using the HDMI input on the tv, the ATI card is set to 1920x1080 but the screen is displaying an inch of black all around the desktop..., im using the ati catalist driver in this case.

win7 initially made the card work with wddm 1.0 or something, that picture was perfect! but then the audio did not go through the HDMI cable so i had to install CCC.......

so, I either get good picture and no sound or I get an inch of darknes and HDMI sound:(

I't took me a full day of messing around with drivers and reinstalling win7 twice before I came here, please anyone? what would be the answer to making this work?

thanks, MindB

Look for some setting, either on the screen itself or for the driver, to adjust "overscanning." If you can't find something like this, Google for it with "ATI" and there should be an app that can take care of this for you.

Not asking for help would be silly and definitely asking does not make the question stupid, I think this is what you are looking for. Go to Control Panel> Desktops and Displays --> rightclick on monitor in the Select a Display box --> Configure --> Scaling Options and adjust your scaling to fill your monitor.

Weird, what is the frequency it reads for the TV, if it is 60Hz check and verify the TV is 60Hz in the TV's setup menu if it is 59Hz you'll need to change it and force it to use 59Hz. You should also check the box where the resolutions are and tick do not show resolutions that do not apply (worded something along those lines). Also check your TV user manual to verify your TV to PC video settings are exactly per manufacturer specs, some TV's will use HDMI but not work correctly as a monitor attached to a PC and need to use the VGA for PC use qwhich means you attach a DVI-VGA converter to attach the TV.

Hi. This is my first post so I hope it helps :)

After having not used it for a long time, I found the new CCC a bit confusing to navigate. I am presuming the CCC looks the same to everyone regardless of model. On mine, in the drop down menu I chose Desktops and Displays, then I actually had to click the little triangle on the small icon at the bottom showing my display and select Configure from the drop-down that appears.

HTH even if only for people with the HD5450.
