Hello Back with Big Problem.

Terrible sound lately and found out this problem. Now I did a lot of finding out and know now I need to change things in my BIOS.

Normally by using the F2 command on starting ( Dell inspiron M501R ). Well, it opens but the arrows don't work.

I am on windows 7 sp 1 64 bit. Is there any other way to get into my BIOS ???

Cannot look or listen to any thing with this horrible noise. It started from one second to the other while looking to QI.

Already, thanks for your help and time,

Thelma

Thelma just how old is this machine? - a Google is telling me it is from around 2010 so I am thinking the CMOS battery may be a tad under voltage (it controls the BIOS)

Now a few more specs would be nice too
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html

Unfortunately I don't know of any software that will show up volts within a laptop - apart from taking it apart and physically measuring that battery with a multimeter.

F2 is to enter the BIOS. If the arrow keys are not working in the BIOS I would suspect more than low voltage on the CMOS battery (although it could still be bad) as the regular PC power is working at that point. Can you connect a USB keyboard and try that?

If I were to open the PC to check the battery voltage I would just go ahead and replace the battery. Its a major task to replace the CR2032 battery as the main board has to be removed.

Now back to the sound problem. HDMI audio is only if you have an HDMI cable attached to a TV or some other device that uses HDMI for audio. Otherwise the "Speakers" should be set as the default playback device. What "horrible" sound??

Sorry, but more questions than answers

Hello and thank you ICIT2LOL for your answer in order to help me.

I will do this System Specs thing ( if I can) but am told to first " contact my application publisher ( ???) for instructions about obtaining the appropriate version of the Net Framework.
I will have to fill in manually as I don'use Internet Explorer ( hate it ).

Do it today for sure !

Hello Fireberd and thank you for your observations concerning my "noise" problem.

You are really helping me enormously, because on all the places I search for answers to my problem, they talk about cables, and I not't use a cable. This baffled me. I just look at old TV things on Y Tube. As I said, the noise changed from just very good to very bad in one second while watching a video on Y TUBE.

I went in my sound devices and it noted " Digital Audio (HDMI) is unplugged." It did not mention cables and so I took it that it was put out of order and that it is something I need to have good sound on from my laptop.

It is from end 2010 but been absolutely fabulous ! What this poor thing has been through with me you would not believe and I have ( up till now) never been to a computer specialist and paid for helping me out.

One thread was on about changing things in the BIOS ( on a Y TUBE video which I cannot understand proper because of the bad sound), but I managed to put down the changes he suggested on paper. Also many people where helped by this (in the comments). The arrows work in F8 or F12 but NOT in F2, very frustrating.

So now you think I do not need the HDMI at all and it is a speaker problem ?

Now what to do then ?

Kind regards,
Thelma

Hum Speccy should run if you want to try that https://www.piriform.com/speccy/download even just the model number of the laptop is better than nothing.

Personally I like HW Info see my little ditty if we need to know what components are needed this will give those in great detail.
Using HW Info
PART A:
You can test the volts on the PSU with HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < download the right bit version and close the right hand window select Sensors and scroll down to the power section where you will see what the volts are doing see my pic. In my pic the section (Nuvoton) with VBATT is a dead give away you are in the section for the rail voltages. There are other section titles and one that pops up often is ITE
Now the voltage on the different rails have to be within 5% =+/- of what is required or the machine will not work properly if at all.
See this for the rail voltage info
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-specifications-atx-reference,3061.html (Section 2.)
The original right hand window shows the machine running and is handy for that but for looking at the components in some detail close it and use the main left hand side panel
FOR OTHER COMPONENTS
PART B:
Open each small square with + in it on the section the components are in and then click on the individual component/s (it will highlight in blue) - in the right hand side will appear all sorts of details including brands speeds and other essential info that particular device. See pic for example.

Use PART B: see pic for an example and again for an example open out the audio andsee what the device is using

I put it in a txt message so now I have to get it here some how. Will try copy and past...........

Well that did not work, so now next : Attachments ....

OK, you Guys are all right and I was wrong, no service pack 1 any more.

It must have vanished with all the rest during this terrible Dell system restore.

So good that I had all my pictures on a USB so they are back.

So I will next have to re-install service pack 1 for windows 7 (64).

I found out you can do a stand- alone one that does not interfere with what I already have, that is to say with my Windows 7 .

I re-installed Hitman Pro today ( the paid one, I found the service key back ) Put ccCleaner back on, Maleware antimalware and Revo. It starts to look like the old laptop.

Now I will study the official good way to send attachments to this forum in order to show the HWinfo, which I already have in my documents.

You are all so helpful and I learned so much here on this forum, it is fantastic.

Thanks again for all your help and time up till now, still have this horrible sound, but perhaps it has to do with all this.
I have, for that problem, a" Test Event log - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC.html" ( which says "Failed"),
that I will send as well.

Thank God this thing has a sort of spelcheck, otherwise you would not been able to understand a word
( 3 handicaps, Dislectix, Dutch and Blond ).

Back to the home work,
Thanks

Yep well get that SP1 done Thelma and I will forewarn you it takes a heck of a lot of downloading - a wretch of a thing but necessary and you will get other updates too.

Now just for your peace of mind I would suggest you do a regular back up of your system and I use like a lot of the others this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/73828-imaging-free-macrium.html it serves as a data back up and a way of reinstalling the system as it was so to speak. All you need is a smallish external hard drive.

Personally I set my machines to image on a weekly basis and even doing that you can image at any time takes a few minutes but worth it.

PS You would be as well to use this too http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html

Hello,

I have managed to get Sevice Pac 1 on the laptop, with a hell of a lot other updates, it took some time and persisting, but it's done.

Now when I open BIOS with F2 and try to use the arrows, I get a message !!!!!

Before, ............. absolutily nothing would happen.

Now the message says " Set up is locked ! Enter the administrator password in security to unlock set up to enable changes."

So this High Definition Audio problem is linked with my other thread here on sevenforums,

"Your account has been disabled please seen our system administrator".

This message continues " Failed to connect to Windows services. Windows could not connect to the Windows Group Policy Client Service. Review the System Event log for details about why the service didn't respond."

I had a look in there and could not find anything that looked like related to this problem, but then of course, I don't really know what I am looking at.

Now I found this on the net ....

To activate the build in Administrator account go as admin in to Command prompt > type " net user administrator/active"

it will now show up as an addi account on the login screen. Now go and give it a STRONG password !!!

Well, I am going to try that next.

The High Definition Audio Device that is unplugged is from Microsoft. model 6.1.7600-16385 (win 7_rtm 090713-1255. HdAud Model_CostomConn Type A found in C:\Windows\INF\HDAudio.sys,-203

I have tried looking at a QI video on Y tube, after the service Pac 1 was installed, thinking perhaps that has solved the problem, but it is still the same, cannot understand a word they saying.

I found in the Task manager or something like that, that the "Quality Windows Audio Video Experience QWAVE was stopped so, I have started that again .

In the System Diagnostic rapport I found only one thing with a red flag. Avq Disk Queue lenght is 4. The disk may be at its maximum transfer capacity due to throughput and disck seeks. ??????

In system drivers software I noticed that 4 different Kernel drivers have stopped.

1) atihdmiserviceATI Function Driver for high definition Audio Service;

2) drmkaud Microsoft trusted Audio drivers;

3) hdaudbus Microsoft UAABus Driver for high definition Audio ;

4) hdaudaddservice Microsoft 1.1 UAAFunction Driver for High Definition Audio Service.

Last but not least I found failure code; 0x0xE0000225, event 32772, event name DBT_DEVICEREMOVECOMPLETE hr 37580933. Event ID 0x0x8004

I report back later,

Thanks,
Thelma

Thelma I would be very wary of typing in any passwords at all except for your admin (user / login) account. I am off out now to work and will look again when I get chance.

Ok Then,

I will wait, I am a bit afraid !

There are some idea's here on the forum that might be better.

Open command prompt at boot type regedit click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and open file in top left corner. Go to menu choose load hive.
Go to the drive where your OS is. ( Will I know that ) ????? C boot partition.

In this example it is C:\Windows\system32\config

Choose SAM and open

Next appears Key name box, type the name what ever you want ( In this example REM-SAM )

Next go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\REM_SAM|SAM\Domains\Accounts\Users\000001F4 key and double click on string F

It will open a table with hexadicimal numbers

Find 11, click to the right of it, backspace and type 10 in it's place.

Restart computer, log on to build in administrator ( will I find that ??? ) reset password .

Have not tried that jet, what do you think ?????

Thanks,
Thelma

Ok Thelma I have no idea where the OS is in there and you have to highlight the mentioned HKEY and then click File open load hive from there I don't know what to do to be honest.

Now before you do anything in the regedit I would do this straight away http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/4230-registry-backup-restore.html use Method two and when you open the regedit make sure you run as admin. Once this is done any mistakes made can be rectified by merging that back up - back into the machine.

What I meant by using passwords is really I never muck around with passwords in the BIOS for example - creates too many problems in the future if it gets forgotten. You really only need a password for the login screen (and any sites you use of course). I am now getting a bit confused as to what is needed.
