Attachments gets corrupted in several e-mail applications

Windows 7 64 bit

When I send an attachment (that opens perfectly on the computer), the other side gets it corrupted. PDF cannot be opened, even JPG open corrupted.
In my 'sent' folder I can open the attachment.
When I e-mail the attachment to myself, I also cannot open the attachments.

It happened on Windows Live Mail 2012, and also on Outlook 2010.

Even when I try to add an attachment to gmail, it says "attachments failed".

My antivirus is Microsoft Security Essentials, but even when shutting down real-time protection, it still happens.

Any idea?

Welcome to Seven Forums galili. Other then the attachment issues, your PC has no other issues (besides the update error, which we can address after if necessary)? You can use the internet without issues?

Try booting to Safe Mode with Networking, and see if you can attach and send an email to yourself. See if problem still occurs.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/69585-safe-mode.html

If problem does not occur, try a clean start to see if there is a conflict. try to send an attachment in the clean start mode.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ation-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html

Let us know the results. Your windows update error can be caused by network connectivity. A Guy

Thank you, A Guy!
I tried what you suggested - safe mode, clean startup, but got same results.
It looks like any upload fails - sending attachments, attaching a file to gmail, even wetransfer.com

Since the Windows Update error points towards network connectivity problems, it may be that your internet is the issue.

Let's attack the update error, as it may speak to your ultimate issue. Try this troubleshooter and let's see if it finds anything

Windows Update error 80072efe or 80072f76

Note the other troubleshooting steps mentioned as well.

Thanks A Guy!

I did the Microsoft fix, and it didn't help.

However, when I took the computer to another house, with another cable connection and another modem/router, everything worked!

It seems like the problem is with the upload of the current modem/router/internet connection.
Any idea of any software than can measure errors in the upload stream?

It seems like a noise/connection problem because the files arrive each time with a different error, and if its a picture, the picture arrives each time with a different defect.

I pinged the router for a few minutes, and I saw packet loss of 8%.

Thanks, Nir.

Ahhh, good test. I don't know if you could just test with your own modem/router at the other house as well? Is it indeed a combo modem/router? If not, try without the router. You can access the modem diagnostics, and see what the signals are like

SG :: Cable modem signal levels

DSL Reports also have monitoring tools there, but most require making yourself "pingable", and some use Java.

Speed tests and problem diagnosis tools | DSLReports, ISP Information

Ping Test will give you just basic info (also needs Java)

Pingtest.net - The Global Broadband Quality Test

If this is a modem/router supplied by your ISP, I'd get them involved. They may even be able to do line tests remotely. If not, a service call may be necessary.

Thanks A Guy!

It is a modem+router (cable Internet service provider), and I cannot test it on another home because the other home doesn't have the same cable company.

I will call the ISP.

Thanks!

Still in progress...
ISP paid a visit, and replaced the modem - nothing changed.
Then I installed a different network card, and some imporvement showed - attachment on gmail worked, but on wetransfer and other web services not. Also, as before, attachments didn't work on Outlook, backup app couldn't upload files, windows update didn't work.

Strangely indeed gmail attachment did work after replacing the network card.

Then I tried booting into a USB puppy linux - and checked gmail attachments as well as wetransfer attachements. Both works.

So, my next try is to do a clean install of Windows.

Wish me luck - this is the stragest PC problem I faced so far...

Thanks, A Guy.
I just tried a repair installed, but it didn't fix the problem.
Next step is I'm going to try a clean installer on Windows 8.1.

Well, formatting and installing Windows 8.1 did not fix the problem.
I ended up installing Linux Mint 16, and since then everything works fine.
