Audio Issue

This may be just ignorance on my part, and I'm going to sound very computer illiterate but..

I'm having an issue with the sound for my pc. currently, my speakers plugged into the green slot work fine, but my monitor's audio, plugged into the monitor with a green plug and then plugged into the blue jack with a blue ended plug(cable that came with the monitor)... doesn't produce any sound. I also cant seem to find the audio out in my audio preferences.

Also, not sure if its unrelated but in the playback menu for my audio, "digital audio HDMI" A icon I haven't seen before, (which looks like a monitor) says its not plugged in, not sure if that's the blue port.

It needs to plug into the green jack on your sound card.

Green Line-Out, Front Speakers, Headphones
Pink Microphone
Blue Stereo Line In
Orange Subwoofer and Center out
Black Rear Surround Speakers for 5.1 and 7.1 systems
Gray Middle Surround Speakers for 7.1 systems

So I Cant have both my speakers going and my Monitor?

Also, when I tried plugging in the cable ( blue) from my monitor into the green jack, it still didn't work : (

Well you can but you have to use a connector like this

mini jack splitter

Most multimedia screens have a volume on the OSD menu or a + - button on the screens bezel itself, make sure that the volume is turned up and not muted
