Hi there,

I use a small program that creates a system tray icon that you can click on and switch the default audio device. This program uses; switcher.exe, and EndPointController.dll to run. I have put these two files in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. When my computer starts and I log in I get a .dll error as follows: Title:Caution, "You are attempting to open a file of type 'Application extension' (.dll)" as if I want to open it.

I simply want to disable this message. I had this working previously and didn't document the resolution. Due to a system reformat it has reappeared.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I believe my previous solution was disabling Windows from displaying the message, but through Google'in I haven't easily been able to resolve.

I have attached the two program files as well as a screen shot of the generic .dll error for your pleasure.

Instead of putting the exe and dll in the startup folder, try to put shortcuts to those files in the startup folder instead.

Create a folder somewhere with the two files in it (C:\, Program Files, etc)> Start> All Programs> Right click the Startup folder> Open

Open the folder you created with the two files> Right click each file then click Create Shortcut> Drag the two shortcuts into the Startup folder

Reboot to see if that works, it should ;)
