Authentec Drivers

When I do it manually, and choose the folder on the desktop, it says best are already installed. How do I get rid of the old drivers so it will look at the new?

The new drivers are version 2.0.0.18. By pointing to the inf file, that should work. Not sure why it's not working

Installing drivers
Open a command prompt from the Start menu.
To extract the driver files, type the following command at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:
expand <CAB FILE NAME> -F:* <DESTINATION>
To stage the driver for plug and play installation or for the Add Printer Wizard, use PnPutil as described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
937793 The staging and the installation of driver packages by using the PnP Utility (Pnputil.exe) in Windows Vista
Note To install a cross-architecture print driver, you must already have installed the local architecture driver, and you will still need the cross-architecture copy of Ntprint.inf from another system. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
952065 You cannot install third-party printer drivers for cross-architecture support in Windows Vista or in Windows Server 2008

Dude, this is all Greek to me. I give up. Thanks, but this is beyond my expertise, which I don't have.

did you expand the zip file somewhere? You need to expand that first, then point to the inf.

I'm sure this is the one I need, but how do I do this?
I type cmd first, correct? How exactly should this be written out?
What is the CAB file name? I know about CAB file from Windows Mobile, but I don't see anything labelled a .CAB.

I have a free program called jzip, but when I click open , another list appears, and at the top it says extract. When I click on it, it says jzip has stopped working. So i'm not sure if it has really extracted the files.

The download folder should contain a .cat file. you can just double-click this and it will open up a window with the individual files. Move these into a know spot (create a Temp file), then do the driver update.

There are two, when I double click them, I get another dialog box labeled Security catalog with a bunch of stuff, don't look like any files.

I think this download is messed up. When I open the zip file, all the lines have a size of "0" value, but the download was 32, 420 KB

I use 7zip for file extraction. That seems to work well.

I may give it a try. It's 12:40, I'm headed to bed, I have had enough for one night. How large was your file? Was it a similar size? I'll check back tomorrow. Maybe gain some new insight.

Ok I just did the download. I picked my desktop, and the Update catalog site created a folder with a long name. Inside that folder is a single .cab file. I used 7zip to extract to a temp folder on the desktop. All of the files are in there. Then using the update driver, you should be able to point to the file.

Morning. Could you show me a screen shot of your folders so I can compare them to what I got? i downloaded 7zip before I went to bed. Will have to figure out how to use it. Like I said, i hate ZIP files. Is there a way you could just email me the files I would need, and would they open automaticly? I just want to get this over and done with. If you can my email is [email protected]
