I am wanting to periodically copy files from one pc to another pc across the lan.
I was reading about robocopy, and wikipedia says there is a gui.

Anyone have a link to something I can use?

That program looks like it has to be manually started, so it runs all the time.
Ideally something should just start and stop on it's own.

looking again at robocopy, it can move files.
Robocopy

sevenforums member, post #10, gives an example of using robocopy

http://www.sevenforums.com/general-...k-scheduler-task-move-files-over-network.html

C:\Windows\System32\Robocopy.exe "d:\data\SharedFiles\Dropbox" "\\otherserver\Backups\DropboxBackup" /s /e /r:0 /w:0 /MOT:5

In the string above, it checks for changes in the source directory every 5 minutes

So I should be able to use the /mov to delete files after the copy.
Although instead of /MOT, wonder if better to let task scheduler run robocopy once a day. Otherwise how to start robocopy? Task Scheduler starts it but with switch /MOT it will remain running all the time.

I also see file attributes of various types can be copied or not copied.
Wonder which attributes WMC needs?

What attributes are copied when you manually copy a file??

A guy on thegreenbutton says robocopy copies files in use by WMC.
He suggests to use move command. He said that did not give a problem with WMC partial files.
Who knows if he used the /mov flag with robocopy or not.

To perform automated file scheduling I use GS Richcopy enterprise version. Although its paid but provides many exciting features like email notification when transfer is complete, multi threaded file transfer, long path name support and many more. Try it, its the best I have seen so far. Hope it helps!

Hello to all,

I've have the similar problem - I need a program that can automatically copy files from one location on my computer to another in a scheduled time but not to overwrite destination file if they have the same name or size but to always add new version od file (add time or date stamp to file or something else).

I've tried various applications and variations of RoboCopy - WinRoboCopy, MoveBOT, CopyWhiz, Synkron, FreeFileSync etc.. and neither of these has ability to add new version of source file without overwriting destination file.

Best regards.

The feature you are talking about is called Versioning. Robocopy does not have it but here is a program similar to robocopy that does. I found it by googling Robocopy Backup +Versioning

VBackup - Windows Command Line Backup with File Versioning

since its a command-line tool you can just make a one-line CMD file with your customized Vbackup command in it, then use task scheduler to schedule the cmd file to run.

FreeFileSync (FFS) has versioning but not the form of versioning NightWolf is looking for. In FFS, Versioning, when activated, directs deleted files to a user designated versioning folder or drive. It's primary purpose is to protect against losing accidentally deleted files or files that get corrupted and would otherwise be lost hen updating a backup. It can be set to add timestamps to files sent to the versioning folder or drive, which has subfolders arranged the same as the original folder/file structure.

Exactly what is Lady Fitzgerald talking about - that versioning in FFS or similar programs doesn't suit me.
Didn't try that Vbackup, but in meanwhile I've found program called Cobian Backup Amanita and it works just like I want it.

Thanx.
Best regards.
