Ok, I know I haven't been here for a while but you know how life is. You get busy, you forget things then you get bored and come back. Anyways, I'm having this really clumsy problem. Not a bug, just a real hard ass one. Ok so I'm pretty sure everyone has experienced most of what I'm about to tell you about in your usual device driver installation yada yada yo. But what I'm talking about here is specific. That instance in which you plug a device, Windows runs ahead of everything else, jumps in and throws its generic driver right into my face before I can do anything. Yeah, That's my problem.

Basically, I've got a GIGABYTE EP45-UD3R and it comes with its own crappy p.o.s. audio chip (I'm an audiophile). However, since I just accused the chip of murder, I do sport a Creative X-Fi PFCS that works splendidly ONLY when I disable and uninstall the Internal Audio card drivers from the Device Manager. Obviously, they conflict. Also, I really don't give a rats ass whether the internal audio card works or not. So basically, everytime I reboot, I have to do that over and over again. It's really killing me.

SevenForums, please help me. How the heck do I turn off Windows 7's automatic device driver install. I've already tried this:

How To Disable Automatic Driver Installation In Windows 7 / Vista

And that does not work. It seems to be focused on the web aspect of what I'm saying (Aka, If it does not find the drivers locally and install em automatically like it usually does, this kicks in to try to find the driver online which I have already disabled).

After the drivers install automatically, try uninstalling them in Device Manager.

It will tell you to reboot, but do not obey! Instead, immediately install the drivers you would like to use.

With any luck, Windows should stop trying to install its own drivers.

I would disable the internal audio card in Device manager. Then the system does not see it.

No see, everything is installed and working fine. What I'm trying to do is the exact opposite, wiping, abolishing, wiping (insert word here) the darn internal card from the device list forever. Disabling the device keeps it disabled but due to the drivers still existing in the device manager it just screws up with my X-Fi.

By screwing up, I mean my recording panel becomes nonfunctional therefore I can't switch or manage the recording source or even select it or modify it. I do a lot of work with audio and in XP this problem was nonexistent because XP didn't force me to install the internal audio drivers.

Try disabling the on-board sound in your BIOS.

What about the USB Camera? How the heck am I going to get rid of that? Every time I disable it and uninstall it, it installs itself right back on. Thing is, I want to use the camera, but I want to use my own microphone. But this thing won't let me haha.

Oh the frustration...

Anybody has any more suggestions? I'm just trying to figure out if there's a Windows service that I can turn off that handles installing devices drivers upon plugging them in. Any MVP here know anything about such an option?
