I have a gadget showing on my desk top which tells me abolut AVG, whether it's loaded, initializing or there are updates. For the last four weeks it has been initializing! I have asked AVG for their help but suspect they do not know the answer as my request for tech suport ahs been quietly ignored.

Has anyone had a similar problem, not with AVG, but with this gadget please??

See screen shot attached.

I have been using AVG for quite a few years PROBLEM FREE, why do you ALWAYS recommending MSE. Don't take this the wrong way, just curious as every problem like this over the past few weeks that is all you recommend. (not being paid by microsoft are we?)

It's been the worst day since yesterday (thanks Flogging Molly) so apt!
I use Avast free.

Interestingly, AVG free came out on top in recent pcpro tests.

Avast did ok - but not as well as AVG - however, Avast was praised for very low ram usage.

MSE did poorly in virus detection and ram usage. Not surpising - MS say it is only for basic protection if you haven't got anything else.

Performance. Performance Performance and most certainly not the ratings you see internet writings of paid companies and journalists.

Removal of AVG has fixed problems on more than one computer.

The only anti-malware solution that has no problems with Win 7 is MSE.

I'm going to once again put in this link:
Understanding Microsoft Anti-Malware Software 2012 ~ Security Garden

I will not go further. I suggest reading of that blog article by Corrine. You might also find interesting reading the actual and real testing done by some of the "evaluators". In a real world environment, then the only av which performs best and is updated often three times a day is MSE.

This is my last word on this topic.
