Just purchased a new system with Win7 64-bit. Have used WinRescue for years to automagically backup registry and selected other files each night. Unfortunately, I discover there is no 64 bit verison of this program. Have never trusted the built-in Windows backup and normally turn this off in favor of other solutions. What I'm asking here is recommendations for reliable backup software to prepare for the inevitable.

Hello jopa66 and welcome to Seven Forums.

I've been using the native Windows 7 backup/imaging tool and haven't experienced any issues. But I also use the free Macrium Reflect "just in case". If you'd like to try some other free backup/imaging tools to see how they compare, here are some more products:

Aomei (also does incrementals and differentials)

EaseUS Todo

Paragon

From your post, you say you're interested in wanting to "...backup registry and selected other files each night." So maybe you really don't need a full-blown backup/imaging tool. Perhaps you'd be better served using something like ERUNT for the registry and Microsoft's SyncToy or FreeFileSync for your other selected files.

Thanx for the suggestions. Having already browsed this forum, I got the idea that Macrium Reflect was a choice of many here. Will try this, as well as check some of the other apps mentioned. When contacting the developer of WinRescue, I recieved this reply, "The problem is a bug in Windows 7 64bit. When Windows is fixed, WinRescue will work. I doubt that Windows will ever be fixed."
No elaboration-- just curious if anyone here knows what this might refer to.
