Defraggler was great when I used in XP but I had nothing but problems with it in Win 7. Win 7's own defragger, however, works just fine so you don't really need a third party program for defragging.

It's been a long time for me to do a defrag because I use SSD's.
A couple of years ago I tested several defrag programs. When all was done I chose to use Windows 7 builtin defrag.

In my opinion the Windows 7 builtin defrag puts things where Windows 7 wants them not where a 3rd party program wants them.

It worked as well as any.
I never did try Contig.

Did you say that Auslogics Disk defragger came with a toolbar or something? Did you do the custom/advanced install or did you do the default/express install?

My personal choice but not a recommendation:

For individual files and folders: WinContig

For boot time defrag with custom file exclusion list, custom delete files on boot list and full disk check I use Puran Defrag. It gets it all done in one go. It also defragements all files when the built in Windows 7 defrag cannot defrag files that are in use.

On the other hand on my work based machine Windows 7 built in defrag utility is used - it runs in the background when the machine is idle and any time I've ever checked fragmentation it always displays 0% fragmented.

Why not using the one on windows? You could try an app called Smart Defrag and see if its work well.

strange... I have been running Defraggler for years with no issues (XP32bit, XP64bit, Win7-Ultimate-x64)...

I keep Defraggler loaded on my Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 PC all the time defragging files as need..

I like Defraggler because:
1- you can do a quick defrag which defrags files 50MB and smaller and leaves non fragmented files alone..
2- you can defrag individual files one at a time to get to the more important files or in groups by folder etc..

'Tis strange indeed. When I first tried Defraggler on my first Win 7 Home Premium notebook, it would take hours to run on just a 500GB HDD. I had the same problem when I built my Win 7 Ultimate desktop and tried using Defraggler on the two data HDDs. One of the HDDs actually crashed and had to be restored (thank God for backups). I've seen reports from others having the same problems.

ooh that's because your doing a full defrag... use the quick defrag option to speed up to op super fast ;) depending on the total # of fragmented files..... and manually defrag files over 50MB in size..
Thats what I do it it takes usually from a few seconds to less then a minute for typical quick defrags.. and when I am doing my C drive... it can take a minute or two.. for each chunk of files I selected...

as quick defrag moves only the fragmented files clean them up and leaves the rest of the HDD alone... its worked for me for years... :D :D :D

All the HDDs in my desktop were WD Blacks (the boot drive was an SSD from the word go on that machine): two 2TB at the time I tried to use Defraggler in my desktop rig (I added a 4TB later and now I have nothing but SSDs).

When I was still using HDDs, I had Win 7's defragger set on a schedule to check for fragmentation around 2AM every Wednesday morning and defrag if necessary. I rarely saw the amount of fragmentation go over 1% (most of the time, it was 0%) whenever I got a feral follicle shaft up my onager and analyzed them).

Waaht? loi ;) cat hair? onager? never heard of it... "analyzed"? do you have some kind of fancy microscope and PC interface? I get it.. you must be an elite scientist!? loi ;)

I would love to get one of those fancy dancy digital microscopes that project an image on a computer monitor and save the image on the computer (one of these days I will break down and shell out the shekels for one). A simple magnifier is starting to not cut it for my old eyes.

The only scientist I am is mad.
