Big windows 7 issue Help!

Im new to the forums and i joined because im am in quite a pickle. So here we go. My brother recieved his laptop a few days ago. If your wondering its a HP HDX 18. When we got it we upgraded it to windows 7 64 bit biuld 7100. It was working fantastically for the first 2 days. Then the next morning he booted up his laptop and the first thing he noticed that there was a huge performance dip and that any sound that was played was all distorted. Then the computer itself would lock up and would not respond. So we tried to reboot it and it would get to the Windows 7 boot screen and just stay there.

He has only installed a few items such as firefox and few games. Ive tried to boot the windows 7 install disk but it gave me an error saying no emulation present. And that goes for the windows vista disk also. We are extremely frustrated because i have been running 7 for a few months on my XPS 630i without any hitches. We installed both from the same disc too. I don't know if its a hardware fault or if its 7. Any help or insight would be extremely welcomed and thank you in advance.

You have no option but to re install, You should have performed a clean install on a new partition on the operating system that came with the new laptop rather than upgrade. So if anything did not work you could jut switch partition. All your major important stuff could be a) Kept on the other OS or b) a third partition to be accessed by both OS. Try reinstalling the original OS, then create a partition and boot from the Win7 disc, choose new install and after install you have two OS to choose at boot, to change which is default, in either OS, type msconfig into the search box in the start menu.

Can you boot into Safe Mode? If so, take a look at your restore points and you update history. I've seen Windows Update trash and thrash your Win7 install. Last week, I could not get my machine to boot. I could, however, boot into the Safe Mode. I performed a roll back against a Windows Update. Once I performed the rollback and then being a bit more selective as to which updates I allowed and all is sweet again.
