Ok, another question then.
I downloaded shellfolderfix and it changed some things.
but now i don't like what it did.
is there a way to get the folder setups back like it was before?

Look I could be way off track but I just go to a library and as in my pic I just choose Tiles from that drop down list. The when I open a folde r the icons are listed out as the files.
My other settings are the same as Brittons.

The only thing is that the pics in pictures for example are then presented as list when uploading to here form the library.

The path to My Documents (not Documents) would be

Users> (Username)> My Documents

As opposed as through the library

Libraries> Documents> My Documents

I don't know about shellfolderfix other than it was developed by tweaker, a SF member

You might try "turning it off" by unticking it in msconfig on the startup tab
Winkey+R msconfig

Then navigate to each of the special user profile folders (Documents, Music, Pictures, Video) and organize them how you want folders of that type to appear (list, icons, sort, group, columns, etc). These special folders act as templates for all folders that are customized to that type.

Then follow the instructions A Guy linked.

Windows also has, or had, an annoying "feature" where it tries to help you by figuring out the folder type based on the folder contents (a folder that was General Items type might become Pictures type if images are stored there). There's a workaround if that "feature" still exists, but I have to find it.

Try setting your special folders and then follow A Guy's link instructions. If that still doesn't solve it, I'll try to find the workaround.

Hmmm, try looking in Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall it if found

It's often tricky to get it just right.

Try it this way

Navigate to your Documents folder
Right click
Select view
Pick Details

Navigate to your Pictures folder
Right click
Select view
Pick Large Icons

Now your General Items and Pictures template folders are set, as far as views are concerned.

Navigate to your xX4m4zingXx user folder
create a new folder "TestGen"
navigate to the new folder
create a new sub-folder "TestPic"
Right click in TestGen
Select Customize this folder....
Pick General Items
tick "Also apply this template to all subfolders"
Press OK

Now your test folders are both of type General Items and should have a viewetails

Navigate to your sub-folder TestPic
Right click in TestPic
Select Customize this folder....
Pick Pictures
UN_tick "Also apply this template to all subfolders"
Press OK

Your TestGen folder should still be view: Details, but your TestPic folder should view: Large Icons

You probably can't tell because there are no files in the test folders
To keep this as simple as possible, put one file in each folder

Copy or create a text file into TestGen
Copy or create an image file into TestPic

How does it look? Is that what you wanted?

If it is, you can apply the same methods to the actual folders you're using.
Tip: the apply to subfolders checkbox might be what's throwing you off.

If it still isn't what you need, I'll need a lot of information and images.
Folder names, folder types, folder content type

Here's some of what I'd need to see on your side - this is just my Documents folder (the template for all General Item folders). It's actually two windows an explorer view and a customize dialog. If / when you need to provide that type of information, it's probably easier if you just post the two windows... but if you're good with graphics...... go for a combined image.



I don't want you to mix content type until you get a handle on this. As I mentioned Windows tries to help an might change TestGen to type picture if you have a lot of pictures in that folder. So for now - keep it very simple.

Ok, I don't think you're right clicking in the folder

Right click on an open area of the right hand pane of explorer (the left had pane is the navigation pane - Favorites, Computer, Libraries, etc)

View is the top menu pick on my machine
