it's cold,it's warm,it's rainy,it's dry
I was a little bored today and went into my bios just looking around and came across something I thought was interesting. In Advanced Chipset Features -OS Comp-It is set by default to disabled. When you open it for settings it states "Select "Auto" for all current OSes(Xp, Vista, Linux, etc..) This is a Future Proof switch to improve compatibility in potential Future OSes.
Could changing the setting from the default "Disabled" to "Auto" help deal with compatibility issues in some programs run on Win7? If so why is it defaulted to "Disabled"? Would my changing this setting effect anything on my pc?

I doubt it , once it runs the post it hands it over to the OS.
You could give it a try and see what happens, you can always change it back.

If you don`t know what your doing don`t mess with the bios.

That's what I thought to... could change it back, I just thought it was weird that something that could influence compatibility with the system be defaulted to Disabled. Anyone have ideas what this may or may not do? I thank you for your input Zomby88.;)

It's probably added for a "future" BIOS update that hasn't been figured out yet.

It could also be for performance enhancement, but usually those things have to be set b4 you install the OS. If you change it your OS may not boot properly.
(sometimes)

Good point, just like enabling AHCI after install, it'll bluescreen. ;)

I have an option with my new XFX750i board to overclock from the Bios, I don`t touch that. With what I have it`s plenty fast.

I rarely turn on the heat in winter !!
