Bios Upgrade Boot Problem

Hello guys,
I have a problem with my laptop, HP Pavilion dv5 (check my specs if needed).
Here's what happened:
I've upgraded/updated the BIOS for my Dell desktop computer (downloaded driver from the dell website) and it worked like a charm.
So then I decided to upgrade/update the BIOS for my laptop when I saw that the HP website drivers page recommended upgrading/updating the BIOS, and so did I.
But then at a certain point of the upgrade/update my laptop froze. I waited a lot for it to un-freeze but it didn't! then I switched the power off from the power button (which was kinda stupid of me to do.) and then it wouldn't boot! I don't know what to do now. Thus, I really need help in my problem, please, I would really appreciate it if someone helped me.

When you were attempting the BIOS update on the laptop did you have the power cord plugged in?

Next question; was the laptop not working properly which required the BIOS update? If it was working properly there was no need to update the BIOS.

This is the risk that is taken when updating the BIOS with out fully understanding what is needed/required to update the BIOS. Each vendor has a specific order in how to update/upgrade their BIOS. I know it's not what you wanted to here.

There a slight chance of salvage, if you reboot and once it reboots....beeps for the first time....keep tapping the F8 key until you get advance boot menu and see if you can get into safe mode or try any if the other options and see what happens.

The answers to your questions:
1. Yes, I think i had the power cord plugged in when it was updating.

2. Yes, it was working excellently. I know, I'm just dumb :banghead: I shouldn't have updated it

Anyway, I'm going to try what you told me; about tapping F8 while it boots. I'll post back later about what happens.

The problem with a BIOS update that goes bad is...it can render the device useless. Which I belive you just have found out...and the hard way to boot. You only have a few options that I'm aware of. You can contact HP support center and see about getting it replaced...is it under warranty by chance. Replace the mobo or buy a new laptop. Again I hate to be the barer of bad news. There might be an off chance of some independent company that might specialize in recovering PC's and laptops from a bad BIOS update. I don't know of any personally, you might try googling it. Sorry for the bad news.

The problem is that my warranty has ended 2 years ago, since I bought the laptop in 2009, and there's no way I could get a new laptop now..

I suggest unplugging the notebook, removing the battery, and removing the RTC battery. That will reset the CMOS. I'm not wildly optimistic that it will help, but it's worth a try.

If the BIOS is sufficiently corrupt, and the chips that stores it is soldered to the motherboard (as I expect for a notebook), the repair may be a motherboard replacement. That may be expensive.
