bizarre bug in Windows 7

When I go into Libraries/Documents it shows that 2 locations are included. They are

c:\users\owner\documents
c:\users\public\documents

When I click on C: drive and then "users" and then "public" there is no folder called "documents". Why is this happening?

Go to an elevated command prompt.
Change directory to C:\users\public
Type the following at the elevated command prompt:
attrib -h -s documents
That should do it.

command prompt Dir does not look the same as Explorer folders

When I issue "dir" in c:\users\public the contents do not match what I see in Explorer.

For example, in c:\users\public there is a "documents" directory in the "dir" output.

In c:\user\public in Explorer there is something called "public documents".

Why is this happening? Please.

There's no need to issue this attributes command. The "documents" directory appears in the command prompt but not in the Explorer window. This is bizarre.

From the command prompt can you change into the "documents" folder? I understand now about viewing from Explorer, but want to see if this directory can be entered.

Yes, of course. "cd documents" works.
I can navigate with the command prompt. I can also navigate with Explorer. The difference is the names of the folders.

In Explorer the name might be "My documents" and in the command prompt "documents". Why is this happening?

I cannot believe I am the only one experiencing this problem. I have not modified my setup since the vendor installed Windows 7. The problem is that Explorer contents do not look the same as command prompt "dir" contents.

It has to do with the "desktop.ini" files located in the Documents folders.
It sets a localized display name that Explorer shows.

There is no bug here. Or problem.

logicearth, I read those 2 links. They are helpful, thanks. I'm still not happy with what is going on. I find junction points a little bit offensive because I do my own backups using Explorer and so I don't like to see anything weird happening.

Windows 7 junction points are so offensive to me that I think I may have to switch to linux.

The Library is named Documents. It contains My Documents and Public Documents. Public can be written out by rightclick removing it from any library.

It takes awhile to understand Libraries but then they become useful for various scenarios.

The explorer tree is highly effective for drag n drop operations. Just hold your left click until it expands fully.

Eh? What are you talking about? Nothing weird is going on with Junction points. Also, Linux has the same functionality as Junctions as well. Sounds more like you misunderstand what Junctions are.
