Black screen after updates

download approx 7 updates and computer turned off. Next day turned on Computer and it was taking a really long time to boot up. then it flashed on the screen configuring updates. then it went to a black screen. powered off/on. but nothing still a black screen..

I have the original retail disk.. do I insert this and boot from it? will I be able to pick a restore point? Will I loose and files? ie pictures videos?
