Black Screen w/ Cursor After Windows Loading Screen

Hello,

I'm new to the forums, but I find myself coming to this site a lot to fix my windows computer, so heck why not join?!

Problem
Recently, my computer starts up windows and after the loading screen it just sits at a black screen forever with a cursor and it doesn't even make it to the log in screen. I have tried safe mode with the same results.

What I've Done So Far

1. Tried to Repair Startup with Windows DVD
2. Tried to use sfc /scannow at boot (Says pending changes and needs to restart)
3. Tried logging into my Ubuntu partition and virus scanning (None found)
4. Tried copying Reg Files from Regback into config while I was in Linux
5. Tried to Repair Install (But I can't log into Windows )
6. Tried to bootrec /fixmbr /fixbot /RebuildBcd (Which destroyed my dual boot linux grub, but I was desperate. And still nothing) Interestingly though, after I do /RebuildBcd command it says something like "Found Windows Installations: 0"
7. Tried to System Restore (Gave me an Error, wouldn't you know)

At this point I'm not to confident that this can be fixed. If anyone has any ideas I'm willing to try. Or if you have any snazzy suggestions on how I could fix it using another computer, I have a different Windows Pro x64 computer that I can put the HD in if there's someway I can save my data/fix it/repair install from there. I just don't know how.

Edit: I finished the chkdsk and there were no bad sectors, though it did give me a message "Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50."

I did a Windows Defender Offline scan with no viruses and I'm currently scanning with Kaspersky Rescue disk. I don't believe it is a virus, I think it's a corrupt registry at this point. I had just cleaned my registry with CCleaner before the shutdown that led to this >.<

Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have any external drives connected by usb? I had a similar problem, and found that I had to turn off the usb drives when I re-booted. I still do that whenever I re-boot for any reason.

Thanks for the info! I tried unplugging my external like you said (And then everything plugged into my computer except my monitor) but it is still sitting at this black screen.

If you could get into the computer, you would find (if you backed them up) the backups in your Documents. They can be restored.

I think I know what I need to do, but I don't know how to do it. I need to know how to grab my registry files backups out of my System Restore Files (I believe in System Volume Information) and put them back into my /System32/config to restore the registry.

My problem is that system files don't store shadow copies and the back ups are in the Restore files and I have no idea how to get to them. I tried using ShadowExplorer.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Yeah, I didn't really understand the registry like I do now, so I never backed that up. (Never again)

Do you know if it's possible to grab Registry backups from System Restore files?

No, I'm not sure >.<

I have my drive that is not bootable plugged into my other computer and I can see all the files fine. There isn't an cc_##### file or anything like it under my User/<username>/My Documents on the unbootable drive.

Is there a way I can use system restore on this computer (that works) to fix my operating system that can't boot?

I ended up just putting the HD into another computer and using Backup to save all my files, then doing a clean install. Figured it wasn't worth the trouble. Would be nice if System Restore worked instead of always giving unexpected errors.

I did find in my C:\Recovery (Hidden folder with the hidden file winre.wim) I could open the .wim file with 7-Zip and get to an older version of my System 32 expect the config folder was dated 2 years ago, so I have no idea what recovery option that was!

If you close threads this is close-able.

Removing the graphics driver in safe mode might work for you. Just remove it via Device manager.

I hate to open back up this thread but I feel like creating a new one for the same problem is just a mess.

I am having the EXACT same problem again and I know it isn't viruses (I did a full scan with my rescue disk in a mini linux OS)

This is after I have clean installed windows 7 and transferred all my important data. The only difference is that I can get into Safe Mode this time.

I was wonder what causes problems like these, because I am beginning to think it is bad hardware. Could a Hard Drive that is going bad cause these problems?

(I quick scanned it with WD Lifeguard tool a day before it started doing the black screen with the cursor again, and it said that it passed, but I didn't have enough time to do a full run.)
