Black Screen with Cursor after Windows 7 Update

Hello, please forgive me if this is in the wrong thread.

I have a Sony Vaio VPCEB23FM and my issue is that my computer loads to a black screen with just the cursor. This first happened when I left my laptop on over night and I believe Windows did an automatic update and rebooted to the black screen. I have tried restoring to a point before the Windows update but I got an error:

System Restore failed to extract the file
(D:\Windows\assembly\GAC\Microsoft.DirectX.AudioVideoPlayback\1.0.2902.0__31b from the restore point.
An unspecified error occurred during system Restore. (0x80070003)

Clicking on the black screen with the mouse and pressing of any buttons does absolutely nothing so I can't open the task manager. Last Known Good Configuration brings me to the same screen. I have tried booting in to safe mode and reach the same black screen with the cursor. I have also tried enabling low resolution video which also brought me to the same screen.

I have tried to provide any useful information that I can think of. If I have left anything out that might help find a solution please let me know. Thank you for reading over this issue, any help will mean a lot to me.
