Highlight the disk number then from Disk menu run partition Recovery Wizard. How to activate Partition Recovery Wizard of partition magic? Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard Video Help.

If no luck test the HD with Surface test: Video help on how to perform partition surface test with Partition Wizard.

How long does it normally take to run because I've left it running all night and it's not finished

If you ran the full scan then it can take a long time. Is it showing any progress?

If you stop it run the HD Surface scan to check condition of the drive. If it fails there are bootable drive diagnostics for your brand drive in the the Triubleshooting tutorials under picture below.

Did you do anything that might have I formatted the partition. This is very rare.

I ran the full scan then cancelled it and started running the quick scan after an hour because it was still on 0%. It is showing some progress but not a lot. I haven't done anything but the computer shop I took it to might have when they reset the laptop to factory settings as I bought it used.

Hi, I cancelled the quick scan because after 2 days it was only on 3% completed. I tried running the surface scan but it just closes the screen goes blue with a black arrow and then then laptop restarts. I'll look at the tutorials now if I can find them.

Test the hard drive from the Troubleshooting steps under the picture below - how could that be hard to find?

If it fails then replace the Drive and follow the Clean Reinstall tutorial in same place.

Hi I've never used this before and I don't understand what to do once I've booted the Hitachi hard drive test disk (PC DOS 7.0) . I presume I first select SCSI and ATA support not ATA support only but then I don't know which option to select next:
1. For Adaptec
2. For LSI 320 Controller
3. For Tekram & Symbios Controllers
4. For ATTO 320 Contoller
Which one should I select?

That disk has gotten progressively harder to use. You can ask John Carrona at the HD Diagnostic link for more help on navigating it, or just use Seagate Seatools which works on all brands to correctly diagnose, followed by a full Disk Check from Win7 disk.

I'll ask John Carrona because I wouldn't be able to follow up the Seagate seatools with a disk check because the win 7 disc doesn't boot.

Follow the option in Disk Check tutorial to run it from Win7 disk.

But you also need the drive diagnostics. One checks the physical surface, the other the file system residing there

Hi,
Thank you for all your help with helping me trying to fix this issue. I needed my laptop back working for my work and as I had the all my improtant files backed up and I would only loose some that weren't very important so I decided to buy a new hard drive an SSHD instead of a normal HHD and I replaced the old one with it in my laptop. I then installed windows 7 using the Samsung recovery DVD I got with the laptop which worked first time and I installed everything back on my laptop and put my files back on it.
