Boot from a Pen Drive, freezing on Windows Setup

Hello guys.

I successfully made a bootable Pen Drive, with Windows 7 Professional. When I boot from that same Pen Drive, it shows the normal message "Windows is loading files...", then it shows the "Starting Windows", followed by a progress bar. After that, the screen goes black and it freezes. It doesn't start the setup. I don't know what might the problem be. My computer doesn't start any OS currently. So I need to format it, it seems having some kind of problem, I don't know...

Back up your files, unplug all other HD's and peripherals.

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. (If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install.) Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of wiping the HD and marking Active which overcomes certain install failures.

I dont have the option to set the SATA controller to AHCI. Still the screen goes black...

Did you complete all the steps in the tutorial?

Do you have a UEFI BIOS?

Did you wipe the HD?

Where did you get WIn7 Professional? How is it written to the flash stick? Start with a fresh ISO from Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 , write to stick using the tool also provided.

I don't have UEFI BIOS, and, as I have stated, can't start any OS installed on my computer (currently Ubuntu 12.10 and Windows 7). I didn't wipe my HD yet (because I can't).

And I used that Windows tool to make my pen drive bootable, so it's working (I've tried on another computer and it gets to the Windows setup). I got the Windows 7 Professional from an official windows OS provider.

What do you mean you can't wipe your HD? I posted the steps above that have helped thousands overcome install problems by wiping the HD and defining an Active partition. The steps are done from the Win7 installer Command Line, accessed as shown. No one said anything about having to boot into an OS. Did you even bother reading the steps?

First, I read your steps. And you didn't understand. I'm sorry for not being explicit. I can't access to the Windows 7 installer. I described up there.

Download a new ISO for your licensed version then write it to stick or burn to DVD using the tool also provided in the blue link:

Try writing the confirmed ISO to stick using UltraISO Software To Create Bootable USB Flash Drive
which always works.

Try booting the stick in another PC to see if it loads up the files, then proceeds until it shows you the HD partitions to choose which to install upon, then abort.

Try another flash stick.

Try a DVD install, burning DVD with same tool provided. If you don't have a DVD drive, borrow an external DVD drive.

Did you reset BIOS to defaults? What are the available SATA settings? Try setting boot order to HDD first, then trigger stick using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key.

If all else fails test your HD with the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan. Once it passes use the tools on that CD to Quick Wipe the HD. If your maker doesn't have a test, use Seagate Seatools DOS ISO burned to CD with Windows Image Burner.

Fill in your System Specs.

Having seen, rather read , all that has happened in this thread, I would think that the OP should first run the manufacturer's diagnostic/repair utility on the HDD and clear it. Even a new HDD may be DOA. ( I have just successfully formatted a WD HDD running PW from a bootable pen drive, but repeated attempts to install Windows from a bootable pen drive - by whichever program I created the bootable pen drive - failed. Running a Quick Test brought the error, read element failed . Now the user is running the extended test. I presume wiping the HDD clean also is no guarantee that the HDD is OK)
