Hi,
I have a problem with my computer when it boots. After the motherboard logo, a black screen appears where it says Choose a operating system:
1. A earlier version of Windows
2. Windows 7
3. Windows XP professional ?!

XP was on my Hard drive before i did a clean install of Win7 ( fully formated )?? I don't know why this is appearing but it's driving me crazy!!!!! I have like 30 sec to make a choice or the underlined system will be booted ( in this case, Win XP ).

If anyone can help, Thanks!!!

Please post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Management drive map and listings:

1. Type Disk Management in Start Search box.
2. Open Disk Mgmt. window and maximize it.
3. Type Snipping Tool in Start Search box.
4. Open Snipping Tool, choose Rectangular Snip, click New, draw a box around full drive map and all listings.
5, Save Snip, attach using paper clip in Reply Box.

Tell us what is on each partition.

Did you follow these steps to Clean Install Windows 7? Apparently you didn't pay attention to where you installed Win7 and now have a Dual Boot, so we can help you remove it and clean up anything else once we see the screenshot.

Here is the print screen. On my C drive is the sysetm; D is my file storrage hardrive, witch was formated before installing windows7. G is a video game CD which has nothing to do with this problem. I had windows XP before on my C drive...

I've used the 4-th option, and selected windows 7 as my operating system. I didn't have a option to uncheck windows XP. I rebooted and the boot manager came up again, but this time without the option 1. (earlier version of windows). Now i can choose between Windows 7 and Windows XP Professional. XP is underlined. msconfig shows that i have only windows 7 listed as an operating system.

In figure #2, the image on the right side of your post, change the timeout from 30 to 0. Does that work?

We need to make sure you don't still have XP on D, rather than just hide it.

Did you delete the XP partition before installing Win7? If you didn't want to keep XP then you should have done that.

If you'll post back a screenshot of the file content of your D drive we can advise you better.

The same problem appears even when i boot without the D drive even connected! I have no windows XP content on my C, neither on D drive....

So XP was on C and you deleted all partitions before installing Win7? It may have needed to be wiped first with Diskpart Clean Command to clear the boot sector of interfering code before installing with only that HD plugged in.

But first: Why is there a Page File on D?

Go Start, Rightclick on Computer>Properties>Adv System Settings>Performance>Advanced, click on Change VIrtual Memory, uncheck Automatically Manage Paging File which should be what's chosen, see what drives are turned on.

If D has Virtual Memory turned on, highlight it and set No Paging File, Apply. If not, highlight C, set No Paging File, Apply, reboot and then go back to select C and Automatically Manage Paging File to turn paging file on for only C, Apply, confirm C is being Automatically Managed.

yes D had paging file turned on. Now, i turned it off, and made a prt scr preview. I am going to reboot after i finish my post on a other thread. Bee back in 10 min :)

Why are you setting a Custom size? That is not recommended. This is not XP. Win7 manages these things with Genius we do not have.

Well, you know... i didn't want to do that, but my good friend who claims to know a lot about computers, said me to do this... and after 2-3 days of his insisting i did that change. But the boot problem was even before there... he said that he doesn't know how to fix it. :o

Where is the Program Files from? XP? What is SBK?

Did you delete all partitions or wipe the C HD before install of Win7? This problem if it persists can be bad code in the boot sector.

Otherwise if there are no other problems try installing EasyBCD (click Download - no Name or Email required) to remove the stray entries.

While installing, the setup itself makes a folder on your Hard drive.
