I have tried installing a Windows 7 Home Premium in my external hard drive. This external hard drive came from my previous laptop which has a hardware defect (video card to be specific) and therefore I cannot use it. Now this laptop that I am using has HDD problem. I am using other OS to use to post this.

This is what I did.

1. Detach the HDD in my desktop and attach my other HDD.
2. Install Windows 7 Home Premium.
3. Try to boot from that HDD in my laptop.

The problem is I am unable to do the 3rd. I was able to run this smoothly in my desktop but not in my laptop. I've tried opening it as a flash drive but no avail. I also get an error.

Here's the error.

P.S. I am currently not using Windows 7, as you can see. Please don't hate me.

Installation to USB is not supported.

Place the new hdd in the laptop, place the installation DVD in the tray or plug in the USB flashdrive installer, boot from it (DVD or USB) and install 7 to the internal hard drive over the old installation (all data on the disk will be erased).

This article explains how to get the laptop to boot from the DVD or USB drive.
