Bootmgr file located in different hard disk

Windows would not boot.

You have a system reserved partition marked active already, if you unplug F, windows SHOULD boot.

Out of curiosity, why i install windows 7 in C:\, but windows put the bootmgr in F:\, and

is that system reserved partition also have the bootmgr file?

Cause you had more then one hard drive plugged in while you were installing Windows

If you didn`t have the other drives plugged in when you installed windows, you would not have this problem.

I would take the boot folder and files from the System Reserved partition move it to C:\ and then once you know everything is working delete and format the partition and merge to C:\ . ( that's what I would do )

I had created a rescue disc, in case windows cant boot it up I will run the recovery disc

actually i dont know how to access the system reserved partition because its not shown in "my computer"

Let`s get 1 thing done at a time here. Please proceed with marking F inactive, unplugging Disk 1 and 2 and getting windows to boot. Let us know your results when you get back online.

In fact, don`t even mess with F until you get C booting on it`s own.

Let`s get this done already. 30 posts and you haven`t made any progress.

To ADD a drive letter to the System Reserved partition :

Right-click on the System Reserved partition inside Disk Management and select Change Drive Letter and Paths... from the pop-up menu.


If you want to see if the System Reserved is hidden ? Open up Diskpart .

Click rb: type CMD right click on CMD choose run as administrator
Type DiskPart
Type select disk 0
Type list partition
Now, select the hidden partition
Type select partition 1
Type detail partition and verify that it is hidden. ( if hidden the set ID would be 17 )
Set the type of the hidden partition to 07.
Type set id = 07 override
If everything goes ok, you will receive the following message “Diskpart successfully set the partition ID.“
All done. Type Exit to close DiskPart.

What evidence do you have that the bootmgr is on F? The flags are all correct on your WIn7 drive showing that the System Active boot files are on System Reserved partition while you're booted into C which holds its own page file.

The fact that F is marked Active is incorrect but no evidence that it holds the bootmgr and even if it has boot files on it these are not booting C since we know that the System partition boots the OS, signified by the System flag.

So, again, what evidence do you have that the bootmgr is on F and even if such a file is there what does this possibly have to do with how your Win7 is now being booted by System Reserved on C drive?

Hello i am new to this forum and seek for help.

I have 2 physical disk, when fresh install windows 7 both disk are connected to computer. Today i find that the "bootmgr" is placed on second drive, while the system installed on first drive.

I am afraid if i remove second drive, it cant boot the windows. Do any way to solve this? Please give me an advice.

Here you go the " evidence " . This is from his 1st post . We could also double check with a command prompt have dir F:\

Click rb: type in CMD once CMD comes up under Programs (1) hit < ENTER > in the command prompt windows enter this command and press < ENTER >

Dir F:\

See if you have boot folder and BOOTMGR listed .

:info: You don't need to run as administrator to run the command .

It doesn't matter if there are boot files on F. It is not booting C. We can see clearly that System Reserved is booting C since it's labeled System and Active. This is the only evidence that matters.

I concur that the other HD's should be unplugged to see if Win7 boots, as it should if the flags are correct.
