Bootmgr is missing, accidently deleted OS

hey ive got this problem that happened to me yesterday

i had an unexpected shutdown, i tried to reinstall the windows 7 as it wasnt working. i formated the partition that the operating system was on, but then was unable to install the new OS.

it wont let me delete partitions or create new ones.

now everytime i start the computer it is missing bootmgr.

ive tried unclicking the hard drive cables which gets me into the repairing windows bit. but this doesnt help as i deleted the OS.

Please someone help?

I am not sure what procedure you used to install, so I will just start from square one. == Put the Windows DVD in the DVD drive. Boot your computer. This should get you up and going to install. When you get Windows installed you can then adjust your partitions. === You said above "you were unable to install the new OS". What problems did you have? Fill us in a bit more on what happened when you tried to install Windows and we can go from there. Thanks,

Now that you have done a format that didn't help, the best way forward is to completely wipe the entire Hard Disk Drive and start from scratch, have a thorough look through the information presented below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.


After you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media, use Step One of this tutorial at the link below to do a wipe (secure erase) to the entire Hard Disk Drive / Solid State Drive.

• Then if you do not want to create the new Windows 7 "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #2 to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to do the installation to.
• If you do want to create the "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #3 to create, format and mark Active the System Reserved partition and then create and format the 100GB partition to do the installation to.

Either way, running the "clean all" then creating and formatting the partition(s) using diskpart will get you the best possible space to do a clean install of Windows 7 to; you can always extend the Windows partition to include the remaining unallocated space on the HDD / SSD or create additional partitions after the installation completes if you choose.

You must boot the Win7 DVD to wipe the HD and install: How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD.

Once you boot the DVD, select Repair My Computer to http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105541-startup-repair-run-3-separate-times.html followed by http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139810-sfc-scannow-run-command-prompt-boot.html and System Restore run from the Repair console's Recovery Options list.

thanks for the reply,
firstly i was having problems with the computer and it wasnt loading my OS it just came up with a blank screen, so i thought reinstalling windows would be the best bet to fix the problem. i inserted the cd and went on to the advanced options to create and delete partitions, but it wasnt letting me erase any drives or create new ones and was telling me one or more drives were dynamic cant install to partitions that were previously created. i thought maybe if i format the drive i will be able to install the os on the old partition but failed, erasing my os and leaving me with nothing, even erasing the backup partition. now every time i reboot i have boot manager is missing press alt ctrl delete to reboot.

thanks bare foot kid for that info it has given me hope i will try this method tomorrow afternoon and let you know what happens

also the only way i can get to the windows installation windows is by unplugging the sata cable from the hard drive and then it runs the cd and then i reattach the cable to the hard drive and go from there. it doesnt seem to want to work when i leave the hard drive cable connected and boot from windows 7 installation.

Don't you want to try repairing Win7 before reinstalling it?

Try setting your Win7 HD as first HD to boot in BIOS setup, after the DVD drive which should be set first to boot.

What happens then?

Next try booting the Win7 DVD. Do you receive a prompt to "Press any key to boot from DVD?" If not, it is not set first ot boot in BIOS setup, or the DVD is corrupt. Try also triggering the DVD using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key given on first boot screen.

If DVD boots, select Repair My Computer on second screen, accept any offered Repair, if it fails to start Win7 then boot back in to http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105541-startup-repair-run-3-separate-times.html. It should automate System Restore and System File Checker - if not, run System Restore from the Recovery Options list on DVD Repair console, then run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139810-sfc-scannow-run-command-prompt-boot.html

sorry greg rocker theres no operating system as i formated it, dumb mistake of course.

to bare foot kid, thanks for the links i am currently amking partitions, 200mb reserved success
completing the 100gb partition as we speak and formating as ntfs currently at 80%

will let you know how it goes.
