Brand new laptop is bricked! Please help!

Hi Windows community, I would greatly appreciate some advice for fixing my dead Lenova G505 notebook.

I am downgrading the factory Windows 8 operating system to a new version of Windows 7. Through my attempts, I have rendered my notebook useless.

I turn on the notebook and see the "Lenova" logo for a split second. The screen instantly becomes black with a blinking white line on the top left corner. I am not able to type any letters or to enter the BIOS through any of the F Keys.


This is what I did:

1) Booted a USB drive containing Parted Magic (Linux partition editor)
2) Deleted the old GPT partition table
3) Created a new MSDOS partition table
4) Created a new primary NTFS parition
5) Attempted to boot Windows 7 install disk
6) Attempted to boot into BIOS

After I press the power key, the screen becomes blank...I need to boot into my USB drive or my Windows 7 install disk. Does anybody know a way to enter the BIOS? Is there another way to boot?

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated!

Lizz, welcome to Sevenforums.

All was running fine to "4) Created a new primary NTFS parition"? Step 5 and 6 failed?
Try step1 so boot from parted magic usb. Works?
You only did step 2,3,4 so changed the internal disk? No further actions doen like changeing bios settings?
It doesn't even display the BIOS logo on power on (it did when you bought it)?

I've just had a little read - try tapping FN+F2 on power up.

Yes, I booted from Parted Magic (Awesome program), and managed to change my partition from GPT to DOS. The BIOS is functional, and is now Legacy rather than UEFI (I believe).. Thanks to z3r010 , I am now able to boot into Windows when using the Fn+F2 key combo on startup.

As this a OEM manufacturer's PC with Pre-installed Windows 8.

1) Downgrade to Windows 7.
Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7
Warning you must have the UEFI/BIOS firmware setting in Step Three set.

Make sure you read the NOTE at Step three.

2) If Using a USB Pen drive on a PC with a UEFI BIOS.
USB Pen drive need to be formatted to FAT32 as in
UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows
Take note of Step 11 for Windows 7.
Also you will need to use a USB 2.0 port, as there are no USB 3.0 drivers in Windows 7.


You will need to buy Windows 7.

I just installed Win7 to a G500. You need to enter BIOS setup to Disable Secure Boot, enable Legacy BIOS, with UEFI boot first. Then boot the WIn7 isntaller as a UEFI device.

Then you only need to delete all partitions during the install, to allow the Win7 installer to initialize it GPT - or if you go Legacy with MBR First, initialize MBR.

We use partitioning tools here all the time but they really are not needed and get in the way here where everything is about the BIOS settings and then deleting the partitions if you want to change GPT<>MBR. In my case I shrunk C to install 7 in UEFI requiring Legacy with UEFI first, booting as UEFI disk/stick.
